So I recently got an itch to play the old school NES. Since then I've picked up a console and some games. NES stuff is still pretty cheap.
I've been playing the s**t out of Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Contra, Tetris, Shadowgate, Battletoads and some others.
I can still breeze right through Contra, but Battletoads and Tyson are harder than I remember. I never beat Battletoads, but I could beat Tyson. Battletoads has to be the hardest game ever made.
Anyone else into NES gaming?

Where in the hell in the Castlevania franchise on your list? jk ... I would have to say that Ninja Gaiden is on par for most dificult game as well... They both are rediculous.

TECMO SUPER BOWL!!! My brother and I still play it every 6 months or so and 1 out of every 10 times we play it leads into a fist fight. Also, how sad is it that I remember the code to Tyson and have not played in decades? 007-373-5963 Here is a great link if you don't own an NES, but want to play almost all the games. www.virtualnes.com/list/a.html

I love NES gaming! Old skool to the core even have an 8bit Mega Man tattooed on my arm. Not got a console (need to pick one up) but do play using emulators. Some of my favourites apart from the obvious, Ballon Fight, Gumshoe, Ice Climbers

I haven't picked up any Castlevania games yet. Although, I just played through Castlevania 2 about a month ago in Wii Virtual Console. I love that game, it was way ahead of it's time. Battletoads is on a whole other difficulty level. I've beaten Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2. They are very hard but not impossible. I played a little of Ninja Gaiden too...those fuggin birds.

Those carts are the most expensive on ebay.

I actually bought an NES about a year ago. I got contra and remembered the code no problem. I also got wizards and warriors.. Another one of my favorites is Adventure Island.
Other epic win games include ikari warriors, kid Icarus, duck tales, skate or die, I could go on and on...
Ok time to hit eBay and get more of my NES favorites.

Rygar was awesome too. I have already gotten over 30 games. Actually I have about 65 but I'm not keeping them all and I have some dupes. I have an extra Contra, Duck Tales, Zelda, mike Tyson and a few others. Also Rad Racer kicked ass. Song 1 FTW

How ironic! -TCT Jr. & I played a little NES & SNES over the weekend with the use of emulators. We played Excite bike, Ninja Gaiden, Super Star Wars & Doom.

For those of you with a Wii, you can modify it VERY easily and install emulator programs that allow you to play NES games with a Wiimote on your flat screens...it's BLISS!

I'm a huge NES fan! I been hitting up flee markets and yard sales for the past 3 years hunting them. I collect all retro but mainly focus on NES and SNES. I just passed 300 nes games. Here is a pic of my bookcase. photo by Strictlygpk, on Flickr

Also I see Duck Tales 2 proudly displayed. Can you send that my way so I can give it a playthrough? My goal is to only get games I like. I can see getting up to 100 or something. I'll post pics of my collection soon.

If i see them for under 5 bucks i usually get them unless their sports. I got the Duck tails 2 and Bonks adventure in a lot i found on Craigslist.

I obviously must jump on this thread too, if it's two big things from the 80's for me it was GPK and NES (as it probably is with a lot of you!) Funny I saw Fester's Quest mentioned, that was one of those cheap $ released games that I got one Christmas, was hard as hell as a kid and have been playing it on and off the previous 2 weeks, on last boss now. Every handheld I own has emulators on it and NES always gets played more than anything else, PSP was great until I picked up a Dingoo A320, there is much newer models out now though but this one still plays all the 8/16 bit stuff good. Probably have around 150-200 NES carts, stopped collecting ages ago I know a lot of you have seen my Zelda collection which I opted to start selling off last fall super-nintendo.com/zelda/As you can tell from my domain name (and my avatar) I'm big Nintendo fan! All Zelda stuff is up for grabs too, I've just been lazy in listing them on ebay, made a good $2600-2800 range selling the greyed out items.

how is Castlevania II ahead of its time?

how is Castlevania II ahead of its time? It added rpg elements to an action game. You could level up, explore, talk to NPCs, buy stuff, etc. basically it laid the framework for the greatest castlevania ever, symphony of the night. Too bad Castlevania 3 wasn't more like 2. 3 was still good but not as deep....even with character changes. It took forever to get the RPG elements back after 2.

what came out first: Zelda 2 or Castevania 2? I believe they both came out the same year. I'm not saying it's THE pioneer of RPG elements, just that it was ahead of it's time for the series and the action genre. Zelda and castlevania were in different genres too
