It is indeed frustrating. I could see someone spending 5-6 grand on this set to fully complete it. It's disgusting really. Throw in a final or two your up to 8+ grand! I don't particularly want all these parallels, but a little green guy that talks in my head keeps telling me I need to have a "complete" set. Maybe we could all chip in and buy the GPK brand from them, probably cheaper and we could control it's direction. Ha Ha, I just suggested something similar to Cory! Let's get this started! I was just about to respond to that. I wouldn't want to start a new card set. Way too much work for that. Acquiring the GPK brand would be the only way I'd get involved, but that's not happening. ;D I wonder what Topps would want for it? It can't be worth that much. Keir just buy it straight up. It should come with the Adam Bomb final. I'll art direct the first 3 series for free for you.

Don't give up Cory, I think you will regret it in the long run. I must admit, I'm pretty disgusted when it comes to the bonus cards. I'm not rich, I'll be lucky to get one of each let alone two. Its also hard when Wacky's and GPK's come out at the same time. I have other interests besides card collecting so its getting harder to keep up with this stuff but I'll try my best. That's the main thing I struggle with. Will I regret it? There have been times where I'd consider scanning all of the fronts and backs and just keeping my "collection" on my PC/device to enjoy. Do I need physical cards to enjoy the set? There is something about holding an OS GPK that just feels right so I haven't wanted to do that yet. Topps is going overboard with the inserts. I feel for people that want to collect it all. Bonus cards and "c" cards should be relatively easy to get. Parallels can be for the super hardcore. Nobody cares about a different color border, but when you start fuggin with being able to collect the fronts....yikes.

Hey Leader, I've been texting Jimbo about this very topic since BNS1 was announced. Again I find myself at a crossroads. I enjoy collecting GPK, but lately it's lost it's flare (For the BNS items). I've yet to open a pack of BNS2 For me between GPK releases I usually collect vinyl. -TCT Wow, I didn't expect ol' TCT to be getting burned out. I have yet to open a BNS2 pack and only opened 1 pack of BNS1. One pack. I got my BNS1 set in a UG/Ebay combo buy. The NES game buying was making me feel all good inside again, maybe I could focus on that. I think I might have almost all of the good games I want though. I'm going to stay away from collecting the crap games. I should adopt a Jimbo approach and just stick with OS. The real question is...Would we be burned out if the cards were good?

I'm enjoying this release but I can see your pain. Topps doesn't listen! They have a twitter account but did they even mention GPK? No, all they mention is baseball cards or NFL cards! Don't get me wrong I'd love to get in to that but surely you'd be pimping everything you produced? I think the FB and BNS has been a lot better quality than ANS but its the parallels and low odds making it harder to complete that fuggs me off! not all of us can afford to throw $$$ at this! I'm lucky to be able to buy one box for this series! But at the end of the day I think personally of rather have GPK released than be a past memory! f**k it maybe I'm drunk rambling haha It's really not the money that bothers me. It's the combination of the set being crap AND having to pay a ton. I'd gladly pay a lot of money for a set that doesn't suck. It's tough to swallow when only 20% of the cards are of acceptable quality.

well i knew not to expect a perfect set with bns 2 . but i like what i see so far. i have just gotten back into collecting gpk. i do understand where your coming from . there is still alot topps can fix . i think they know exactly what we want. they know how to release a proper gpk set. but i think there will always be the filler in the product......... the not so popular artists . Maybe they should just find some people that can do it correctly. Fugg, they released a series like every 3 months in the 80's. How have they regressed in quality with all of this technology to speed s**t up/make things easier? I don't think they know what we want or what a GPK even is. It's evident by the crap they continue to put out. If they know we don't want X.....don't give us X. Throw X in the trash and replace with Y. It's not difficult. People accepting low quality product aren't helping things either. We can only show our displeasure by not buying this crap. Obviously, pointing out problems on a message board hasn't done much in the last 10 years or so. ;D If sales tanked they'd take no blame though, the product simply wouldn't have a fan base anymore. So we are kind of forced into buying trash if we want it to keep going. We want it to keep going because one day they might figure it out. One day...

I feel like this all the time. I love collecting 80s stuff I had as a kid, especially GPK. But like you said, the prices, artwork, and weak concepts have really taken its toll on my urge to keep collecting. If I look at something awesome from the 80's and the modern version of it, it seems that companies have figured stuff out and are making it better. The NES was awesome but gaming coninues to get better (for the most part) Transformers were awesome and they are awesome now. I'm talking about toys. I can buy a Transformer now and the thing doesn't break into pieces. The engineering they are doing on these toys is incredible. GPK doesn't even remember what the hell it is. I remember doing something back in the day that showed how many GPK were bodily function related and there were like 10 cards in the first 6 series. Now we'd be lucky to have less than 10 in the first 20 cards of a set. Nobody working on GPK now knows what made GPK great. It's all a cash grab and I don't like it. By all means, GRAB THE CASH, TAKE MY MONEY, but give us a quality product in return.

I think I might tap out of collecting these new GPK products. I'm not really a fan of the stuff being put out. Even with the ANS there were some awesome standouts, now there really isn't anything compelling at all. Even with the CPK look, the cards are just boring as fugg. The concepts are just blah or rehashes. It's like every series is ANS2 over again but it's costs you 30 times more to get it. I don't think I can justify spending money on this stuff anymore. Topps doesn't make the decision any easier with the pricing and inserts either. I feel like a fool supporting a company that doesn't give a fuggin s**t about it's fans too.
I really need to think about this. If I stop collecting there is nothing left for me to collect. I'm not into the items, foreign or secondary GPK stuff. I'll be finished and I'm not sure if I want to be finished.
Anyone have similar feelings? I think I need someone to hold me.

I've praised these covers in the past (as well as shared them on FB/etc.)...and the new update is fantastic. Thanks so much! That being said... doing all of this work for FREE. NOBODY DOES THIS STUFF FOR FREE AND YET HE REALLY DOES. Careful with this kind of talk ^ There are dozens of great contributors to this community who do stuff for free. All the time. Your kind words are deserved but perhaps take it easy on the hyperbole. Just to expound at little.... There are a lot of instances of the geepeekay watermark on the covers so it's a group effort around here most of the time. But yes, thanks for hooking everyone up with these covers Mike.

I don't even know what that is. I never really played anything pre-NES. I mean, I played around with Atari and some other things a few times but they weren't really cool. I can see why the industry damn near ceased to exist. Games SUCKED for the most part pre-NES. I also didn't play much with the other consoles that came out while the NES was dominating. Sega Master System and other systems just weren't that good. I had friends that had them and we all hated them and played the NES instead. I remember that one that had the controller with like 16 buttons and you had to put a card over the buttons to know what to do. Who the fugg thought that was a good idea? Once 16-bit rolled around I started to expand my horizions. I still stayed away from Turbo Grafix though. Then skipped stuff like the NEO Geo, Atari Jaguar and Sega Saturn. The stuff you knew was going to fail. Your life there Cory almost sounds the same as mine word for word lol although i loved Neo Geo and PC Engine (Turbo Grafix to you lol) Neo Geo was too expensive. $200 games and $600 for the system to play street fighter clones. Fugg that. I did buy the Sega CD but that thing sucked so bad that I skipped the 32X and just traded all of my Sega stuff in for a SNES. I held off on the SNES until Nintendo relaxed their censorship BS. When Mortal Kombat 2 came out I switched over to the better system. MK1 on the SNES was garbage.

This is an awesome pic. The glare is really cool. The Zelda gold carts are some of my favorite things to come from the NES. Not only were the games awesome but that shiny gold cart just popped. I was so disappointed when Nintendo didn't use the same shiny gold appearance for the SNES and N64 Zelda's. The gold they used for OOT was dull and brownish....not cool.

I'm definitely gonna fire up the pc nes emulator tonight all this talk is making me wanna old skool it! Shame the ex wife took my wii otherwise I'd play them on that. I don't know why, but playing the games on the OG hardware increases my enjoyment. It just feels right. Virtual Console NES games are weird to play with a Wiimote or the Classic Controller. SNES games work well though.

No Dragon Warrior 1-3 rpg love? A metallic slime ftw! Dragon Warrior 4 was released on NES too. I remember getting Dragon Warrior for free by subscribing to Nintendo Power. The first game was good but 2 was much better. I never got to play 3 or 4, although I did order 3 through a game magazine back in the day and they never sent the damn game. They just took my money order and sent nothing. Nothing I could do about it....lesson learned.

Karnov! I forgot about that one. I rented that game so many times. I don't think I ever beat it though. That fat little guy kicked some ass. I owned Karnov as a kid. I beat it a few times. The ending was so awesome. It just said congratulations and that was it. For a game as hard as Karnov they could at least added virtual naked chicks or something.

What a great thread! Love seeing all those games Glock really brought back memories! I was playing Kid Icarus the other day, forgot all about double dragon I used to play that daily...along with Zelda, Castlevania, Punch out...hell any game I came across! I was playing Kid Icarus on a road trip I took over the weekend. I have the NES 3D classics version on the 3DS. I never played it when I was younger but always wanted to. It's been pretty good so far. I played it a while back and hated it but for some reason it has grown on me.

I was searching Craigslist for some games and came across this really cool pickup i scored for only 60 bucks. Some good titles and a sweet game & watch. Craigslist is the spot if you want to find games for cheap. photo by Strictlygpk, on Flickr Sweet. I need to find an Ikari Warriors 2 at some point. SML2 for Gameboy was awesome. what came out first: Zelda 2 or Castevania 2? I believe they both came out the same year. I'm not saying it's THE pioneer of RPG elements, just that it was ahead of it's time for the series and the action genre. Zelda and castlevania were in different genres too

I got my first nes when I was 4 years old so 1988. I still remember asking santa for it, and when i got it for christmas I was showing my dad how to play mario. Instead of jumping on the goobas he thought you chased them lol not many memories being 4 years old but definitely that one Some of my fav's are megaman 2 (fav of all megaman games) mario 1,2,3 of course paperboy contra Tmnt 1,2,3 part 1 is the hardest game I love the swimming level. probably my favorite level of all games next to mario 1/3 Double dragon 2 Astyanax codename viper punchout ducktails nemo dreamland ninja gaiden 1,2,3 I have nes, snes, and sega emulators on my psp. whats cool is you can save the game at anytime and play, thats how i managed to beat tmnt I beat TMNT on the NES back in the day without cheats. Hard ass fuggin game. Still not battletoads hard though. f**k Battletoads...s**t still owns my ass. I think mega man 3 was the best. 2 was incredible too. I have both carts.

how is Castlevania II ahead of its time? It added rpg elements to an action game. You could level up, explore, talk to NPCs, buy stuff, etc. basically it laid the framework for the greatest castlevania ever, symphony of the night. Too bad Castlevania 3 wasn't more like 2. 3 was still good but not as deep....even with character changes. It took forever to get the RPG elements back after 2.

I'm a huge NES fan! I been hitting up flee markets and yard sales for the past 3 years hunting them. I collect all retro but mainly focus on NES and SNES. I just passed 300 nes games. Here is a pic of my bookcase. photo by Strictlygpk, on Flickr That's awesome. I see you have some dupes....are you just trying to get as many cartriges as possible? Also I see Duck Tales 2 proudly displayed. Can you send that my way so I can give it a playthrough? My goal is to only get games I like. I can see getting up to 100 or something. I'll post pics of my collection soon.
