So I've been playing the NES I have in my office at work a lot, specifically Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. For the first time in 25 years I beat Mike Tyson. Since then I've beat him a few more times (once in a 2nd Round TKO with 1 second left on the clock). I don't know how I accomplished that s**t as a kid, s**t is brutal. Anyone beat a really hard game on the NES lately?

I got a bunch of new things lately but here are just a few quick pics of what came in the mail today and yesterday: Cool sketch by a local CA artist sent to me by Travis. Thanks man! Two new pieces of final art #238 Mark Spark/Cherry Bomb and #362 Doug Food/Nick Yick. Thanks a lot Cory! Glad you got those pieces from me Adam. I miss them a little but I'll get over it.

Saw Iron Man 3 last night and it was pretty awesome. Incredible FX and cool story. It's definitely worth seeing in the theater and is much better than Iron Man 2. The Mardarin is a much better villan than Whiplash and Hammer were.

Welcome to the board Stizzco. Thanks for the post.
My original point about second guessing was about the product quality more than the price. I understand price is a major factor to a lot of us though and it could drive people away just as easy. It seems we are split 50/50 of people sick of spending lots of money and people wanting a better product for their money.
How many people on here are still actually looking through the terrible BNS2 art and concepts regularly? How many people have just filed it away never to be seen again? I'm guessing there are some severely neglected and sad base sets sitting in top loaders/binders.
It's been a few weeks since I quit the BNS and it feels good. I sold most of my BNS1 inserts and chucked the base set in the trash. The chrome set just validated my decision to quit even more. I honestly don't miss it. The only thing that sucks is seeing the new GPK images on the board but I can live with that. ;D

Just wanted to drop a quick note to let everyone know that after thousands of hours plugging away on the computer, the re-design of geepeekay.com is now complete. I could go on-and-on about all the benefits/improvements/etc. of the new site, but it's my birthday...and I would rather scoot out of here and start drinking. So...if you get a chance...click on the image below to head on over and check out the new digs Thanks everyone! Happy birthday. Site looks great.

I watched S1-S3 in one week. I thought the first season was good.
Season 2 was pointless as fugg while they searched for that dead girl. Did anyone really think she was alive? She wasn't smart enough to stay in one place for 5 minutes, how is she going to last weeks by herself? The latter episodes were good. Sucked to see Shane go, because he was smart.
Season 3 was decent. The visions of dead people was kinda dumb. I liked the Govenor story arc but they really didn't do much with it. I thought there was zero payoff at the end of the season. They killed a couple of people that no one really cared about in Andrea and Milton at the end. The only character death that I even remotely cared about in Season 3 was Merle. He was growing on me. I'm glad Lori died, I wish Carl would've died too. T-Dog, meh.
The TellTale game is much better than the show. If you haven't played it, you need to. Don't play the FPS walking dead game though.

It's coming out for all of the consoles I believe. I saw all of the logos on the last screen of that trailer. No PC though. I don't know about you guys but I had a big ass s**t eating grin on my face through the majority of that trailer. I wish GPK could get that kind of reaction out of me. This is really cool. Is this going to be a downloadable content thing on xbox live or will we have to go buy the game? I cannot wait! Downloadable $15

I rented that game on Gameboy back in the day when malls used to have gaming rental shops. Fantastic platformer with memorable music. Never played the NES version. Though I just might do so now on my phone. I don't remember the two games being very different outside of the color scheme and music. The NES version is definitely the superior version though.

Here's my first batch I shot yesterday, I was under the impression we could do emotions not shown, in fact I thought that was the whole point. Anyway, these are uncropped and unsized and alittle scary. "Over the Edge" "Pay Day" "Yeah, but look who's holding the Aces" "Who Me?!" this is an emotion we desparately need, especially me! I was reliving this thread and this is so goddamned funny. Classic Russ.

How many people would buy a set or two of OS16 if Topps got off their ass and made it? Complete with the original backs too. How much would you pay for it?

Ha! Ha! 3am international calls to Finland.... -TCT When the person picked up, I thought I was speaking with someone from Mars. But, that wasn't the only funny thing that happend when calling around for GPK... there were plenty of stories from calling over to Australia, NZ, and the UK. That's some hardcore collecting. I guess that's one of the reasons I never got into the foreign stuff. Too much work.

Just to be accepting of whatever they put out because "they can't please everyone" or "it's a product for children" are some of things that are killing GPK for me. Do I expect them to cater to me individually? Hell no. However, I do expect quality. I didn't like every card in the sets back in the day but almost all of the cards were high quality. Nowadays we are lucky to get a few great ones surrounded by a bunch of abysmal artwork and/or rehashed concepts. There is no motherfuggin reason a card like Egg Sheldon should exist. It's lazy, it's insulting, it's bulls**t.
Last I remember, GPK was a kids product in the 80's. Why do we think kids are so fuggin stupid now? Everything needs to be dumbed down to levels where it's not compelling to anyone...including kids. If GPK were ANS or BNS in the 80's nobody would remember GPK today. It's the reason why all the GPK knock-offs didn't take. They sucked and kids rejected them. Hell, they rejected GPK when the quality diminished.
Anyway, I can't support that BS Topps mentality anymore. If you can get enjoyment out of these cards then more power to you. I'm happy the brand lives on, but I hate what they have been morphed into.

Maybe they should just find some people that can do it correctly. Fugg, they released a series like every 3 months in the 80's. How have they regressed in quality with all of this technology to speed s**t up/make things easier? I don't think they know what we want or what a GPK even is. It's evident by the crap they continue to put out. If they know we don't want X.....don't give us X. Throw X in the trash and replace with Y. It's not difficult. People accepting low quality product aren't helping things either. We can only show our displeasure by not buying this crap. Obviously, pointing out problems on a message board hasn't done much in the last 10 years or so. ;D If sales tanked they'd take no blame though, the product simply wouldn't have a fan base anymore. So we are kind of forced into buying trash if we want it to keep going. We want it to keep going because one day they might figure it out. One day... I think one of the best ways to make a difference is showing your support to the artists that you like and stop buying from the corporation. Make up your own concepts like a lot of fans out there do and have an artist make a cool card painting. Everything gets manipulated and homogenized by the time everything comes out in stores. In a small scale what is happening with GPKs is what is happening to the whole country. Everything is based off branding and using the company image and it's nostalgic history to continue the cycle of selling inferior products. For most product lines there is a "planned obsolescence" for it. That's why you need to get a new car after 10 years (if you get lucky). For creative stuff it's "creative obsolescence." Regurgitation of the same stuff with little creativity. In a lot of ways some of the later OS had this problem. I read many interviews where they just ran out of gas. There is no heart or love for it. It's just another owner buying something and trying to make a ton of money from it. The sad thing is the only way people will stop buying from them is if the economy plummets again. Stamping those 3 words on a product doesn't make it a great product. Imagine the brand had a different name on it. Would you still buy it? I don't make a ton of money with what I do, but the fans keep me able to continue doing what I love. I don't need a fancy house or a large color flat screen. I just need to get up and work on something cool without catering to someone who is just in the office for a paycheck dictating what they think is cool. They have no idea what is cool. If all the artist would just do their own thing trust me the stuff would make you teary-eyed and proud. Imagine if it was all backed up by the fans? I know most of you don't know about comics, but something like that happened with Marvel where the best left in the early 90s and made their own company (Image Comics) and it was revolutionary. Not all the comics were good, but it was a break from the same-o. The creators blossomed into even bigger super stars. Today they still stand for creators rights and usually give the better deals to creator-owned stuff. If you knew they were putting harmful stuff in your food would you still buy it? Most people choose to be ignorant until it's too late. So the question Cory asked to me goes deeper than that, but the real question is are you still going to continually support them? I'm not anti corporation or anything but I know where you are coming from. Yep, in the 80's OS10-OS14 suffered badly. It became the Bunk/Warhola show and they sucked the fuggin life out of GPK. Somehow Topps fixed it by OS15 and OS16 but it was too late. Kids were smart enough to abandon GPK when the quality went to hell. For some reason we keep coming back now when we are supposedly smarter. We've been fugged over time and time again and people just keep saying it'll get better. It's all bulls**t. It's never going to get better, because Topps apparently doesn't have any shits left to give about GPK. I'm just going to do what I did in the 80's and bid farewell to new GPK products. I'll let the people that would be satisfied with a turd rubbed on canvas (as long as it has a GPK LOGO) buy this s**t. I'll just enjoy my OS and ANS....well OS1-9, OS15 and the standouts from the OS10-14 and ANS 1-7. ANS will always hold a special place in my heart. I really did my best to help out as much as I could and met some cool mofos in the process. Thanks LD for being awesome and taking the time to read my dumb GPK emails back in the day. It was fun. Mark you rock too. TL:DR You broke me Topps. Thanks for saving me money.

I'm not quitting GPK...Just undecided about the BNS2. To collect BNS2 or not to collect BNS2: That is the question -TCT That's good to hear Diego Just get a base set of BNS2 Does this mean I still have to be 10th in command Same with me. I'm not quitting. I just can't see picking up BNS2. I'd probably sell my BNS1 stuff. Just getting out of the BNS game overall. Maybe FB items too...anything post ANS7 really. Maybe.

That one isn't terrible. It's basically just Cut-Up Carmen made out of fruit. The thing that irritates me about this one is it's landscape. Why? So we can see the hand holding it down. The GPK is so small on the card for no reason. Cut-Up Carmen was a cut out, this one is based off the old Fruit Roll-Ups, I would say they are different. Plus the rip is in a great spot. lol I do agree about the image being too small though. In the 80's, it would have taken up more of the card, which is why the hand comes out more to compensate. Still the GPK itself is nicely done on this one. Fruit Roll-ups with cut-outs or peel-outs or whatever they were. I'm not saying it's a rehash, it's similar but different enough to stand on its own. It reminded me of Cut-Up Carmen when I first saw it though. The art is good it just has a ton of dead space in it. I'd rather have a close up of the details than a big dumb hand taking up 1/3rd of the space. It's not a GPK that blows you away. This is a good filler GPK to add diversity to a set. There just aren't very many knock-outs in the BNS in my opinion. Pieces that are truly memorable that give the series weight. OS4 for example. Puzzled Paul...great GPK. Not really what pops into your head when you think of OS4. You think Unzipped Zack, Max Axe, Alien Ian, Shorned Sean. Not Flat Tyler even though it's good.

Picture this card printed in 80's cardstock with a dripping logo and smelling like gum. I think it could have been in an OS set back in the day, what do you think? I even 90/10'd the borders for you Just throwing that out there, I know people are hating on the art pretty bad. I think there's good ones in there. The GITD cards are also super cool in my opinion. That one isn't terrible. It's basically just Cut-Up Carmen made out of fruit. The thing that irritates me about this one is it's landscape. Why? So we can see the hand holding it down. The GPK is so small on the card for no reason.

Good topic and replies guys. It is interesting to get everyone's take on this serious issue affecting many of our lives BNS2 will be the first set I do not collect at all. I started getting upset with all the FB sets. There isn't a more clear money grab. Reproduced cards from the OS sets with tons of nearly impossible to complete parallel sets. Overall, the small amount of new art in the FB sets was weak. How many friggin Adam Bombs do we need? For some reason I collected BNS1. It was a waste. The more I look at the cards the less I like them. Before FB and BNS I was a completest. FB and BNS has made that near impossible. Could I spend 5-10k to complete a set? I suppose but why? Why do I need the same card in 10 different colors? I understand that is is a business and Topps needs to make money. I just refuse to support it anymore. I like OS GPK. That is what brings back memories of my childhood. I could care less about a Jersey Shore parody. So after BNS1 I decided to stop collecting new GPK. John Pound is retired. Tom Bunk is a shadow of his OS self. Some of the current artists are good (some are horrible) but it just does not have the same feeling to me. So I am slowly getting rid of all of my ANS, FB and BNS stuff. I will keep ANS1 I suppose because it has many OS16 cards in it. I do enjoy foreign cards. They primarily use the OS art and I find them interesting. So I have that to focus on still. But at the end of the day I can respect people that enjoy collecting the new GPK stuff. America is a free country and art is a subjective thing. Personally I would rather spend my money on other things. You could probably piece together a full OS16 set if you take ANS1 and all of the "lost" cards. I should have listened to you back during GPKUG Con a year ago about just sticking with the OS. It looks like you didn't take your own advice though. OS16 is another thing Topps has ignored us on. We've asked countless times for them to release OS16 as it would have been released in the 80's complete with backs. They could sell it online only and yet nothing. That is easy money right there but they aren't interested. They can't super gouge us with inserts. I'm sure almost all of us would by multiple boxes each, probably cases.

It is indeed frustrating. I could see someone spending 5-6 grand on this set to fully complete it. It's disgusting really. Throw in a final or two your up to 8+ grand! I don't particularly want all these parallels, but a little green guy that talks in my head keeps telling me I need to have a "complete" set. Maybe we could all chip in and buy the GPK brand from them, probably cheaper and we could control it's direction. There's only so many of us gold collectors. If we all agreed not to pay more than $10 per card we could control the market and make it more manageable to put these together, lol. I think a big part of it this time is that it came out so soon after BNS1 and the wallets need some recovery time. Plus we know BNS3 is only a few more months away so turn that $8k into $16k in one year to put together 2 master sets. Insanity! We tried that with artwork back when Topps was listing a few pieces a week. Didn't work that well. People can't resist screwing each other over. The GPK bug is like a real VIRUS...it makes people SICKY
