Unopened Wrapper Collection NZ & Aus In this photo you say the series two live Mike pack was from Australia but I 100% remember being able to buy those packets from a number of stores here in Auckland, New Zealand. I remember being able to get both types of packs but would always buy the LM's because he was my favorite.

Hey Mike, i guess some of the live mike packs could have ened up on the market here as they were both packed here in nz in oamru then shipped either around nz or over to aus but in general the live mike wrapper was the australian series 2 wrapper as it confirms on the back of the wrapper by stating it was distributed in australia, where the blue nz wrapper has no mention of this as it was only released in nz.

Going back to the New Zealand test set, I can give you guys some information seeing as I own the lot (still working on series' 1-4 though). Here are a few interesting facts...
The a's and b's are not related to each other. I don't know a better way of explaining that, so I'll just give an example. 228a is Grilled Jill, 228b is Uncool Carl.
The checklist numbers are weird. The a's begin with 186a, then go from 210a - 252a. The b's begin at 159b, then go from 203b - 245b.
Some of the cards have both variation names, while others don't. For example, it contains both Hector Collector (248a) and G.P.Kay (203b), but it doesn't include Roy L. Flush's other alias.
I don't have my camera with me at the moment, but if anyone's interested, I might be able to take a photo of the checklist some time next week. I don't have any knowledge on the American GPK, so I can't say how many are taken from which series. But at a quick glance, it looks like Mike has posted photos of most of them anyway (possibly all, I haven't scrutinized the photos).

Hi Andrew, As mentioned earlier in the thread, the NZ test series you talk about, is simply the UK 6th series, shipped over to test the market before Regina put GG into production. Here are links to pages at Waynes site, one for the UK 6th series, the other an overview of the Aus/NZ sets, including reference to the UK sets being used to test the market. wgpkr.com/GPK/UK/6/wgpkr.com/GPK/AustNZ/

Oh right, I didn't click on that link from earlier. New to the board and I'm already acting like a n00b. I'll have to work on that...
I still think the set-up for it is a bit messed up, skipping numbers and having some alternative names while missing others. I wonder why they did that?

No problem, just thought id clear it up for you.
The UK series were messed up from series 3. The people at Topps Ireland either couldnt count or were high. They basically removed certain characters/artwork from the 3rd and 4th series for some unknown reason and didnt re-number the cards, so there were gaps. They then used series 5 & 6 to try and fix the numbering mess they had made. Which results in the complete mess you see on your 6th series checklist. Name changes were made in UK and Aus/NZ sets i believe, not really sure why, i guess because they wanted to try and use names that were more common/recognisable in the countries the sets were sold in?

So I received a picture of the New Zealand 23a Drippy Dan card from jsmith88. It does look like it's the UK card, even the back looks exactly like the UK card!?
Anyone knows how you can tell the NZ series 1 apart from the UK1 cards? Besides the 13 cards that had a name changes.

The only difference is that the New Zealand series 1 set is called Garbage Gang not Garbage pail kids... Other wise I'm pretty sure they are the same as the uk series 1...

Lol. That's cool, the curved banner can do that, it was pretty confusing here as a kid, we had the uk series 1 cards and also the our own release about the same time and even in the same packaging to begin with.....

so the auction states its newsealand ( curved garbage gang banner) anyone on here can confirm this is the real deal. i believe there two variations of the 1st series wrappers.
black 1st series square = aus 1
red / transparant 1st series square = NZ 1
but i am not shure about the boxes as this one is sealed and no way to have a look at the packs
