Ebay put out a 15%-off coupon today, and OF COURSE I bought something for $80 like two hours beforehand. God damn you eBay! Roll that coupon tight and stick it up your dickhole.

yep, been there done that. Wait, you bought something right before a coupon was announced, or you shoved a coupon up your pee-pee hole? If it's the second one, I won't judge.

Just be happy you were not charged sales tax. That should start next year. I hope those taxes go to some undocumented citizens. Actually, no I don't.

I know in-state residents have to pay sales tax. Anytime I buy something from Topps Vault I have to pay stupid taxes on top. But I hope you're not saying that all ebay sales will include sales tax in 2019. I'm not sure I'm down for that. Might have to start my own bidding site, barf-bay.barf!

Ugh. So does this mean the sales tax comes out of the buyer's pocket up front (like when I buy from Topps Vault)? Or does the tax come out of the seller's pocket after the sale (basically as an additional fee)? I mean, I know savvy sellers will increase their prices if so, but not all sellers are that savvy.

The seller will not see anything. eBay will charge the buyer tax and send it to the tax collector in each state. It will hurt my sales. After eBay fees, PayPal fees, free shipping and now sales tax on every sale, 25% is a non starter for most transactions. I recently 'earned' a 10% (1% - BFD) Power Seller discount on fees but required to ship the next business day, pray the USPS scans the packages (or I'm fked), plus offer 30 day no questions asked returns AND I must pay the return shipping. WTF! Lately, I have been shipping heavy items. I can't wait for my first return...

It might get to the point where I'd rather be stuck with them than take a bath on ebay/pp fees AND taxes. It doesn't really pay to use ebay anymore. I'll tell you what, I'll keep my eye on your listings and just hit you up here if I want anything. If we all start doing that for each other, I'm sure we can work out deals where the buyer doesn't pay as much and also the seller doesn't take as big of a bath as they would on ebay.

Now I have to weigh the benefit of the Power Seller discount, versus someone wanting to return an item and ME paying the return shipping.

Ebay had a 15%-off coupon today, and after hemming and hawing all day I finally decided to pull the trigger on a proof I have been wanting for over a year. Only to find out that the coupon works only when using the app. God damn you, eBay! May you burn in hell forever and ever!

It especially makes it easier when trying to sell something, as I just take a pic and then upload it right on my phone.

Just like EZ-Pass and direct deposit. That's how they get you, you know.

Nothing wrong with using the app. I sell and buy through the app all the time. Easy to use on the go. There are no hidden charges so there is no reason not to use it.

They offer 8x and 10x ebay bucks quite often via the app. It's free money for buying crap we don't need already so why not take every advantage? Seymour I texted you to assist

Seymour I texted you to assist But why all these incentives to use the app (8x and 10x ebay bucks, discount coupons that are app-only) that are not available in the browser version? What does eBay have to gain from users using the app rather than the browser version? I feel like something is up their sleeve. They aren't doing this out of the goodness of their own hearts. They get some kind of benefit out of us using the app. It's like my bank trying to get me to switch to a new checking account, because my current type of checking account is no longer available to new customers. The bank is all like "you get so many better benefits from the new type of checking account". Bull s**t. They want me to switch because keeping me on the old checking account is keeping them from realizing some kind of benefit for themselves. Frig them and frig eBay!

One quick answer is when they advertise on the web on search engines and sites and it leads you over to eBay and you purchase they pay a small percentage to where they had linked over from..... And when you straight up are using the app they don't have to pay any advertising stipends to anybody..... So to urge folks to use the app more, they will grease their palms so to speak.

Mobile growth is where it's at for sales... it's not just eBay but any shopping site, lol. People are more prone to impulsively buy on mobile when the shopping is literally right at their fingertips and their attention is being pulled by a million distractions. That's why they are "pushing" the app, lol. Just to get people to spend $$$. Nothing sinister beyond the usual capitalistic motives, lol. They want more and more people more "comfortable" shopping on mobile because the more they expand mobile, the more money they make.
