Rumors on the internet have said the Garbage Pail Kids cartoon was released briefly on VHS in the U.S. in 1989 even though the show was pulled by CBS two years earlier (I'm not talking about the bootleg copies with the European dubbed voices). I ask every one. Is this true or a butt load of crap.

If you mean.. was the cartoon ever manufactured and sold on VHS.. then NO. But if the cartoon was ever on VHS and made its way outside of CBS International before the DVD release.. then YES. To my knowledge the only time the cartoon was sold was to the UK, Iceland, Spain, and other spanish networks that aired the cartoon.

I've only seen European bootlegs outside of the recent official release.

I don't think it was ever offically released on VHS, but I've had some of the episodes on VHS since the early nineties. It was shown here in Britain on nickelodeon back then and I recorded some of the episodes. I pestered my parents for ages to get satellite TV because I spotted the words "Garbage Pail Kids" in a TV Guide. At that time I'd never even heard of the cartoon so I just had to find out what it was. Speaking of the cartoon, I think it would have been better if it had been made about four or five years later. I think if it had been made in the early ninties and been more along the lines of Ren and Stimpy, that sort of humour, it would have fitted in better with the humour on the cards. I like the cartoon, I just think it would have been better if it had been grosser with more cartoon violence.

Just glad they finally did the official release of the 80's cartoon  ...Did anybody ever witness the "teaser commercial" for the cartoon?...I remember a very short advertisement promoting the GPK cartoon, with the kids all running towards you a the end of the promo :less: ...I was very young and very crushed when the cartoon didn't air—we talked about it all week at school during recess . Somebody could still possibly do some animated GPK cartoons or shorts...with the proper rights. I'd love to see them portrayed in different animated media formats ...and somebody on GPKUG mentioned a video game. I'd love to play a GPK game and be able to pick or "create" my own GPK character :bat: ...he/she could then run through a GPK World landscape and fight parents, policemen and really bad adult types ...I'd choose Leaky Lindsey and she'd swiftly dart through a slimey ghetto and launch cannons of snot at crowds of shocked and horrified onlookers...

Since I happen to browse around Matt's GPK Archive today, I stumbled upon an old project I had done for him. Matt aquired a Icelandic copy of the GPK Cartoon. It's actually pretty funny to watch and the best thing about it is it's on VHS!!! www.geocities.com/Area51/Station/9622/cartoonshots.jpgwww.geocities.com/Area51/Station/9622/cartooncover.jpgPICTURE #42 - I would first like to thank Diego for preparing this image for me, and for the GPK Cartoon VHS cover art that is now available for download by clicking on the image "A" above and choosing "Save As". Print the image with smallest available margins possible and in landscape format You can order a copy of the 6 episodes on VHS, through Paypal, by clicking on the "Buy Now" link at the top of the home page. You will see 35 Garbage Pail Kids in these 6 episodes (5 main characters, 30 cameo appearances). -TCT
