I have given up on Topps actually putting out a great theme. It seems as if they are out of times, not with it, don't understand how to make a parody work. Whatever the theme is I can bet it won't shake the world like the originals did. What's a shame is that it can be done. If you jump on any social media you will find a bunch of clowns to parody and make it relative to modern times so not just the 30-40 year old find it funny but youngsters also. Topps is so out of touch that they have doomed the gpk brand. I hope it's not monsters, sitcoms, politics, battle of old ass bands, Oscar or grammy make it relative to the circus we call social media. Everyone and they moma can relate.

Sometimes I'm inclined to believe topps is stuck in pop-culture-flavor-of-the-month mode as it relates to GPK anymore. I can only hope topps surprises us this year, but I very much doubt it. Again though, here's hoping.😉

If the new set uses the same lame style as the last few releases then this is the probability that I’ll be buying packs: GPK releases that lack back art, checklists and puzzles......

As a UK collector I would like a similar set to As american as apple pie but with a british theme I'm curious to see what the creators of GPK would imagine when they think of Britain

lack back art, checklists, puzzles Don't forget die-cutting, sequential numbering, and thin cardstock from Cartamundi's playing-card factory. Original flipside content is half the set's value. Color-coded subsets make sorting a pain. Even Ping's cards are die-cut.

I always assumed GPK would die from Topps refusing to make new sets, and over time -much like in 1987-1990, fans would drop out to chase other things (for me it was girls, and skateboarding, punk rock, and gaming). I was SO wrong.
GPK died by overproducing sets that featured bad art, recycled gags, and mediocre ideas, and by condemning fan culture such as fan-made sets and not listening to the corebase. Instead, Topps continues to make GPK to some imaginary audience. The world could give a f**k about GPK, LOL... LOL.
UG and the multitude of lil’ facebook sites ARE the true audience of GPK, but they look over our heads too much. What do we want? It’s quite simple, we want quality over quantity, we want someone to think up a funny gag, and if they are not world class graphic designers then they need to give the idea to one. That designer then needs to design the character and... if they are not also a world class painter and colorist then... pass the idea and design to a painter and colorist who can close the deal.

Sad thing is, it would be so easy for topps to put out a classic 1-40a\1-40b GPK set. In a complete set one cost deal. They could even make it online order only, whatever. As long as the artwork is quality, has a decent cost, and has a cool new wave retro design packaging. No silly themes, no shameless pandering to certain political leanings, and full original series 1-9 style. I'm buying.😁

I agree with almost all of that. However, you can't blame Topps for putting a stop to fan sets. People were reproducing their artwork and selling it. That's a big no no. If the sets had actual, original fan art, it probably would've been fine.

SO, Joe Simko recently mentioned that ... "We are working on the new series that will be out in the fall. Hopefully they will be able to make an announcement soon. Of course we already know, and this theme is something that fans have been wanting for a long time." Anybody have any ideas (inside info?) on what theme it could be? What "fans" is he talking about I wonder. Are humans asking for themed sets? I don't think so. Maybe they are talking about actual electric fans. I don't think that's the case either, because all oscillating fans would answer no. I know, they preface all questions to the oscillating fan with "today is opposite day"

complete set one cost deal... artwork is quality, cool design, no shameless pandering Rittenhouse does this well. Their Lost in Space Archives boxed set has all 43 cards painted by a fan-favorite artist plus 3 autographs, 1 sketch, and 4 metallics, and if you buy 2 sets they guarantee you'll get the complete 8-card metallic set plus a bonus triple-autographed card. It's expensive at $200 but it's done right and the limited print run of 200 ensures value.

These sort of sets are starting to take over aspects of the card collectable market. Upper deck actually puts out a series of card games that all have this format.

I'm really hoping the 2018 Horror set is as good as the 2017 Halloween online mini set. That would move things in the right direction.
