SO, Joe Simko recently mentioned that ...
"We are working on the new series that will be out in the fall. Hopefully they will be able to make an announcement soon. Of course we already know, and this theme is something that fans have been wanting for a long time."
Anybody have any ideas (inside info?) on what theme it could be?

I think the only thing we've been wanting for a long time is a proper release for OS16. But if current artists are working on the new release, that's not what this is.
Maybe it's "We Whatever the 90s". Or a movie-themed set. Or more Trump cards. Or whatever other s**t no one asked for or wanted.

Oh you know what? How about an entire 180-card set of the Goldbergs?? Everyone's favorite show, they've already had cards in two different sets, we can't get enough of 'em. And now we could finally have cards parodying our favorite side characters like the toaster oven, Poopie the Clown and the mom's OBGYN or whatever.

All joking aside, it seems lately that they've been testing the waters with online and other small releases and if they sell well, a related full-scale traditional release occurs. For instance, Topps released smaller sets for the rock and roll hall of fame, riot fest and grammys, and then released battle of the bands as a traditional release. They released a number of 80s pop culture cards (I remember Lion-O in a litter box, Falcor eating his own tail, etc.) and then released we hate the 80s.
So the answer to what the next release is possibly could be found by looking at some of their other smaller releases. They have done a lot of golden globes and oscars releases lately, so my money would be on a traditional release focused on movies. Which would make sense also because they've already done music and television sets and what else is left for such unimaginative executives at Topps?

Current social problems would be ideal; Opie Opiate, School Shooter McGavin, Tide Pod Todd, ARvin 15, etc.

The second series of the year has had an entertainment theme 2016 was TV shows 2017 was music I don't know if this is coincidence or a deliberate trend so I'm going to guess movies or sport for 2018 series 2

How about they make the theme Garbage pail kids so they get more variation of characters some themes like music don't allow much variety and all the characters on Battle of the bands were human. Some of the old series had a wide variety of characters such as series 3 with a Robot, Mermaid, Werewolf, Sphinx, Frankensteins monster, Grim Reaper, Spider, Vulture, Totem Pole, Toad and many others which you dont get in themed sets

I figured it out. It's going to be Trump Pumps. A 1,000 card set featuring just a few of the whores he paid off to bang him. Book it, done.

No one is going to remember who half these people are in 10 years. Rory Rags? Acting Up Aitchison? Who are they??? Or this asshole with a flute up his nose that I see on ebay all the time: Also, some of the concepts are weird. Why is Michael Stype supposed to be Rip Van Winkle? It's just not a set that I think a lot of people will go back to and enjoy very often. At least with We Hate the 80s, it hits on big-ticket nostalgia items from the 80s. It's all stuff we remember. They didn't have cards for CHUD II or Jacko.

I'm guessing because Rip Van winkle fell into a deep sleep and Michael Stype's band name is R.E.M which is the phase of sleep you go through when you dream

Well that makes sense to me now that it's been explained. But it needed to be explained! So either it isn't apparent or me is a idiut.

Personally I don’t think ALL of the stuff from the last few years is horrible. I enjoy it for what it is- but it’s so apparent that Pound and the other original artists spent so much more time making characters. There was a lot more passion put into the OS

Maybe a set without parody’s but nostalgic GPK’s that truly could fit side by side with the old sets

The Goldbergs isn't a very good show, and is not something we are nostalgic for. I'd rather have had cards for Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, etc. Plus, it seems like they put the Goldbergs in the set not because they thought the GPK fans actually want it, but because they have some kind of friendly connection to the show's creator. WTF do I care if Joe Simko or whomever is friends with Adam Goldberg? If I end up buying the new set, I will remove the Goldbergs cards and consider it a 162-card set.

I really don't get the Goldbergs connection either. I watched a few of the episodes, nothing great. Also the youngest kid on the show is in middle school by the 2nd episode so I wouldn't imagine GPKs being any type of plot point. Could be wrong but not worth sitting through anymore episodes to find out. There is an Adam Bomb sticker on the door to the kids room. Not sure thats a good enough reason for Goldbergs to infest multiple sets but apparently someone thinks so.

Looking at Adam Goldbergs auto on eBay it looks like it was painful for him to sign them. What an ugly scribbled auto lol. He must have hated signing them. The whole thing should never had happened . I agree with other sit coms- there are a ton of other 80’s autographs I’d rather have. 80’s bands signing cards would be cool. Any real 80’s celebrity!! Topps can do better.
