Has anyone else been bidding on the We Hate the 80s 1/1 Blank Backs that Topps Vault is currently auctioning?
I got the following:
Dee and D Don-Geon Master Flo Worm Ar-Cade
I wanted one of the Smurfs cards too, but didn't bid aggressively enough on Garga Mel, while Papa Murph went for $219 (which is a price I wasn't willing to pay!).
They got a little expensive (though Flo Worm and Ar-Cade were on the cheaper side), but I figured I wanted something new to collect and do like these particular cards. Plus, having the rainbow AND the blank back of each of these cards makes them more special.
So, what did you guys get? Did you lose any that you wanted? Anyone here pony up the $219 for Papa Murph?

Must be a decline in interest looking at the prices these went for compared to previous series

Wow, $219 for a card sold with a hologram on it? Don’t the new cards have blank backs anyways? Smh at these people. You can buy a color rough from Mark for $150.

I'm not going to defend spending $219 on one blank back, but nothing is precluding that guy from doing that and also buying a color rough from Mark. I spent the following: Dee and D: $90 Don-Geon Master: $75 Flo Worm: $30 Ar-Cade: $45 That's about $240 total, not including shipping and NYS sales tax. That's a lot of money! But if Brent Engstrom were to put his color rough or final of Dee and D up for sale, I would buy that too.

I see little to no value in a card with a blank back, whereas an original piece of art from a top tier artist would have much more value.

All things being equal, I'd rather have the art. But I'm not the kind of guy who would normally shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars for just any original art. A blank back or a printing plate will be my loftiest height of collecting. Maybe there's one or two pieces in a lifetime I'd spend $500 on. I'd also rather spend $50 on a blank back of a card I really like than $150 on a rough I have no emotional connection to. But that's just me.

I guess put another way, I wouldn't spend $200 on a blank back of the Smurfs card if I could get the color rough for the same price. But I might spend $200 on the blank back over a $150 color rough of a different piece I care nothing about.

It turns out the guy that bid $219 for the Papa Murph blank-back card backed out of the deal. So Topps relisted it. And now it's coming to its proper home! My fifth and final blank-back. I can't wait to meet my baby boy!
