This is a subject discussed all over the internet and people either love or hate either and will fight to the death about it, lose friendships, gain friendships or grow 4 arses.
But my main question stand in here for Chrome 1 upwards, not necessarily what is best, but more, what do you look out for most. You may prefer BGS as they rate stricter but own more PSA, how does that affect you? do you choose to buy all of 1 type or do you buy sections in a type. Like all Dead Fred Chrome in BGS and all Live Mike in PSA.
I haven't sent a single card out to be rated yet, I bought some crazy watch fixing magnifying glasses for $6.50 so I'll look like a mad doctor as I stare at my cards for any imperfections before I send them out.
I'm leaning more towards BGS but have accounts with both and feel there seems to be more PSA out there. I have two PSA which I bought from ebay, both Prisms rated 9, just wanted to see wha they looked like and they're very nice.
Not only that BGS seems pretty cheap at $10 each on batch compared to PSA's $18, though I hear there are lots of deals each month when you sign up for their yearly subscription of 6 or 15 cards free plus benefits.
Can anybody pass on any knowledge of experience of this? :-)
Thank you in advance
Duncan

This is severely lacking for something like this and which is expected with any sort of grading or scoring.

They both have their own agendas and business models to make money at the expense of accurate card grading. PSA grades some card 10s that are really 9s. BGS basically has a top grade of 9.5 with very few 10s. A fair grading scale from 1-10 doesn't exist with either of these companies IMO. When someone says they have a PSA 10 card, I always wonder... is it really a 10?

If you are looking for some 10s and don't care as much about the quality then go for PSA. If you truly want the best cards you can find then BGS is the way to go, their protectors are even better than PSA. BGS 9s generally blow away PSA 10s. Especially if you get them from a high volume vendor. PSA routinely over grades product from high volume sellers. I'll post a "10" that I got from one of these sellers, pure crap. For chrome though most cards would be 9-10 anyway just because they are so rugged.

I agree with the above replies. Like Tommy, I prefer the BGS cases and I think they usually grade a little stricter. I've had some real head-scratchers from PSA. I also like the way BGS provides the sub-grades, which seem to hold them more accountable for the final grade.
I'll also add that I've grown frustrated with buying graded cards as the cases often have scratches/scuffs. It detracts from the card itself, and it's almost like you need a grade on the card...and then a grade on the case!

Lol yeah I know what you mean, you start wanting the case to be pristine too. I guess they come in a bag when you get them from BGS? I've also seen a few BGS on ebay with the label slightly out of position which is interesting and would really irritate me.
I've heard that PSA seem to rate rather high for cards, I know that some companies send quite a few cards which they clean up and so it could look like a higher rating and favourability when really the vast volumes of oportunities they have based on us common folk really makes a difference.
I only have 2 rated cards, Both 9, both PSA, both Chrome 2 Prisms and bought at a pretty good price. But I can see a little line on Leaky Lindsay which to me makes me think how is this a 9. Maybe an 8 max, unless it's a mark inside the case.
So do you guys pretty much collect both as and when you see them, or do you aim specifically for a particular grader. Would you all be happy to have Rappin' RON as PSA and then Ray GUN as BGS, if you saw them at great prices and high grades in ebay. Or would you decline based on wanting to have them all the same?

Like most collectors, I'm pretty particular about my collection. I am just about complete with my OS1 and OS2 PSA 9 sets, and I like that they are all similar (I'm even picky with it saying glossy or not on the label). I do have some BGS cards of characters I like though. I think there are just way more PSAs out there, so it was easier for me to build my sets.
I've seen the BGS labels out of place too, and that drives me nuts! I'm too OCD for that nonsense.

I would say that anyone who is a collector has some level of OCD so you might want them all the same. I have a ratchet gem OS1 set, BGS 9.5 and PSA 10s its a hot mess mix but I like it. I'm about 8 cards down (brothers and sisters can you spare an Adam Bomb?) so when I actually finish it the mix up might bother me but for now its good. Figure I can pull my best PSA 10s and try for BGS 9.5s if I need to go that route. There are just way more PSAs out there since they grade higher there will be more for the foreseeable future because of that reason. I know of folks that got BGS 9s, had trouble selling and flipped them to PSA to get 10s.

No joke I put a chrome auto in a 1 magnet touch case and when I look at it month later, there were scratches. I couldn't believe it. And I'm 21 short of a complete set. So inspect these bad boys right away

Yeah I had 2 gold from chrome 2 hobby boxes that were scratched when I opened the packs... :-( Very disappointing. Also is it me or should disappointing be spelt, Dissapointing, Dissa-pointing, you enter the first s and leave with a leading s to a, like assets. Just doesn't make any sense.
So s**t, I was really thinking more on getting bgs for a taster with a full set of 25a Creepy Carol, apart from the SuperFractor which is on sale for $750 right now. I'm really eyeballing that one I can tell you, but the misses is watching all my moves now :-P
