Topps is jealous. Really jealous. Plus, a low down dirty scum bucket tipped them off. That person is also jealous. And butt-hurt. Where is there proof someone tipped them off? Did you guys get a message saying "this guy told us you're making stuff and we don't like it"? I'm not going into details, let's just say "I know". |

Wow ok. I always thought that topps knew these fansets were being made. I think its probaly a mix of things that made topps step up. Anyways i got mine in yesterday and love the new fs! Thx jimbo, rusvan and others for making these awesome fan sets over the years. The will be missed. |

I'm not going into details, let's just say "I know". Wow ok. I always thought that they knew these fansets were being made. I think its probably a mix of things that made them step up. Yea, I think they knew to some degree. They've gone after artists, cheap toy custom makers, etc. They knows that fans create their own collectibles, but I don't think they go actively hunting down every single person using images or violating copyright laws. It takes some jackhole to go running to said company saying "OOOOO LOOOOOOK! They are making custom stuff! Get em!". My guess is said company sees that the items produced by these amateurs/former artists is 100 times better than the crap they are producing, and decides to shut them down before the sheep still buying the garbage said company is producing realizes that they've been had. |

Topps has had employees on this board before, they knew these sets existed. But they also seem to be cracking down a little lately, they shut down mr. Potters coloring book also. I am shocked so many people get away with selling the 1/100 prints etc. because that's not just selling a 1/1 tribute or hand drawn art, that's actively reproducing something under copyright....but it's all sketchy to me.
Most of the art people use and draw are from th 80s, topps already did the 30th anniversary set and the first two chrome sets...they should be done with OS 1 and 2 now. Maybe there's a secret os3 chrome set coming soon and they want to protect profits....because surely they don't thing slimey tv crap is gong to sell big.

I mean its kinda a big deal when these fs drop on here and i'm pretty sure the scan this site. With there own fanbase shrinking and sales dropping there going after these fan made items that sale better then there own crap. And lets not forget, i saw the back of the fs6 bonus card even tho it was brilliant it was a kinda "f**k you topps"  |

I have yet to see the fs 6, and it is a shame that it has come to a end. Thank you for all who made them possible. I also wondered about the custom posters and sketchs and such on other gpk sites being sold. I think a few are better then others etc etc. All the GPK money being thrown around is for resale or trade of old items etc. Next you know Nintendo will have those bootleg nintendo's recalled...

I saw this on Instagram last week. http://instagram.com/p/BEw00DRTeNG Not saying this was the cause, but advertising these fan sets on social media probably wasn't a wise idea, since they technically are illegal. Hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people may have seen that picture. The odds of some random asshole reporting it to Topps increased exponentially, or Topps saw it themselves and had no choice but to finally crackdown. |

Over the past year I've learned just how scummy of a company Topps really is, so why someone would go crying to them (especially over something that doesn't even affect their bottom line) is beyond me. But narcs generally are pretty scummy people themselves.

There are a few people who got their little wee wee smashed in the past (got banned from the UG for various reasons) and are holding a grudge. |

Lets us remind Topps of how they felt when Cabage patch kids took them to court.... They fought back!!!.*..DID THEY stop making gpks?? Nope!! Just changed the logo and a few minor specs.... Hell, do the same!!.. kinda funny how a half ass company woyld get mad at a few artist drawing ans selling thier owe versions of the cards.. this just triggers more sales of the original gpks and such .start using the original gpk logos from 1985!!! Topps has no say so in that!! Cabaga patch might, but once again you would be bringing them back to the spotlight triggering chatter and sales!! They shoyld thank you all,not threaten! |

Somebody was selling fanset 6 on eBay last week or so ...and within couple days this happened . so I'm sure it's a little of all ....but branched outa ug ..means advertise and attention that but didn't need

 It's just the attention it got in general that killed it...someone probably ratted it out and used the various instagram/FB/UG posts to prove it was a "big deal" and Topps should shut it down. If word never left this forum, I don't think it would get shut down. But in current times, social media is pretty influential and if they start getting questions about a fanset on the "Official GPK" facebook page or something asking about "that set we saw on this website"....well, it's the end of days. No one person to blame (except potentially "the rat"), it is what it is. Didn't say it was, and my first words stated that. My point was simply that advertising copyright-infringing items on social media was probably not the wisest of ideas. Let's not beat around the bush here, these sets technically were illegal. They used copyrighted artwork that someone bootlegged and charged money for. The owner of said ip is going to take notice eventually. Did nobody learn anything when Topps put an end to the custom cheap toys? They obviously don't like their products being bootlegged. Even though most here, including myself, find them to be a vile, greedy company, they still are a business and have to protect their ips. |

To be fair you can't be sure that it didn't either. I know you would feel terrible if you were the reason that the Fan Sets got the kibosh but....you know in WWII they had a saying....loose lips sink ships. These sets were my favorite issued GPK related items since the OS releases. Hands down. Thanks to all that worked on them. We have really enjoyed them. I'm shocked Topps cares. I'm sure you've really dented their pocketbooks and their stock is down 15% due to a few fan sets. Give me a break.
