Hey guys, thank you for having me on the board. I had no idea there were so many people who loved GPK the way I did. I have most of my childhood collection in tact - granted when i was a kid my mother trashed it a few times and I had to start all over.
This is going to start out very 'raw' and i hope with advice from members on here, i can get it organized and properly secured. This is one of my hobbies that I have had since I was about 5 years old because my older brother had them, and I of course, HAD to have them too.
The majority of the loose cards, I have had since I was a kid so they have been in my posession since the 80s and early 90s
In 1992 I was very RANDOMLY awarded a second chance to collect these cards because 2 stores near my house that operated as 'clearance' stores were selling them by the BOX for $1.00 unopen. Was anyone else as fortunate? I was only 10 years old, so I couldnt take full advantage of this, but I did, in fact get my grandfather to purchase 14 BOXES of unopened series 10 from 1987 - and did the stupid thing- SOLD THEM .25cents a pack at school. I mean, what was i going to do with 14 boxes of 10th series cards? And at 48packs at 25cents each, with only $1.00 for a box, i was making a KILLING for a 10 year old!
I wish my future self could go back now and straighten myself out. I did manage to hold on to a TON of 10th series cards though.
So lets begin.
i'll start with OS10 because thats what I built my collection around
this box I have had in my possesion since 1992 i bought it for $1.00
These are my series 10 Cards That I have had since 1992... I bought them new in the packs by the box from a store that was selling them! I was 9-10 years old...they survived going away to college and me moving 3 times. They were kept in a closet in this case since 2001. I recently sorted 4 complete 379A-417B sets... I did not get into the 'variations'
This is a my 8th series stuff, i have a full set of A-B again wasnt worried about variations
a stack of 8th series cards - a box with 24 packs and and empty box...
My 5th series collection is a box i have had for about 10 years that does not have a black line, and contains the poster for that series. I also have a box with 10 packs... all the 5th series cards I have are from my childhood collection in the 80s and stuff I bought as a kid off my neighbor at a yard sale in the early 90s
I have a box of 4th series that I didnt realize was not very rare. I bought it in wildwood new jersey at a comicbook/card show at the convention center. One stand had GPKs which was rare, it was 1993 and I had only seen 10th series cards at this point for sale anywhere so 4th series seemed to me like it was a rare treasure. EBAY was not around in 1993 so i didnt know any better. Still, its nice to have
The loose cards are not very many they are from my childhood so 80s and early 90s they are not in great condition...for example the checklist is checked off
As for the rest of my stuff. Its mostly just loose cards between series 3-10 i have some series 2. I dont have any OS1 - believe it or not, when you are a kid, PARENTS throw things away!
I am starting to get back into this again - I think i missed the boat between 2006 and 2013...
all the variations of sets confused me so badly there was ANS1-7 and then BNS1-3 as well as flashback? and now they simply do it by year? 2014 series 1 is where they currently are I believe (correct me if i am wrong!)
and they have started doing a rerun of OS called CHROME...which i think i will restart my collecting days at.
My first question of advice is i have a chrome OS1 Hobby box, and a Chrome OS1 CASE of 12 hobby boxes. Is it worth opening it up and searching for cards, plates etc...or should i hoard it as is for a few years??
