I bought some cheap toy bags from an ebay seller, and they arrived today all mushy and leaking through. I'm guessing this isn't normal. Could this have happened during shipping? Does cheap toy candy melt in heat? Does this mean the toys are ruined?

I bought some cheap toy bags from an ebay seller, and they arrived today all mushy and leaking through. I'm guessing this isn't normal. Could this have happened during shipping? Does cheap toy candy melt in heat? Does this mean the toys are ruined? And of course, the seller isn't being very reasonable about the situation. He described the lot as having "candy residue on some of the bags". A better description would have been, "melted, rotten candy sludge inside the bags, with the toys submerged in the sludge". I asked him to let me open 2 or 3 of the bags to see what condition the toys are in. If the toys are okay, I told him I wouldn't seek a refund. He refused, saying he feels he described the condition of the bags quite well, and that the mushiness must have been caused during shipping. So now I'm debating whether to take a chance and open these up, or instead open a case with eBay and try to return them unopened for a refund. Any advice?

Eat the sludge and quit being a p#@$y!
Toys will be fine after a good hot soapy bath and possible brushing with a gentle toothbrush. Candy probably got crushed into powder over the years.... Bags sweated over the years.... And a delicious paste situation possibly occurred. Eat it, then wash the toys. Win/Win

But I better see colors or something else fun when I eat the sludge!

Well you're not far off. Here's what the inside of the bags look like: That orangey brown sludge broke or seeped through the inner candy bag, and the toys were all covered in it. Some of the sludge even seeped out of the outer cheap toy bag and stained the box: It was a real s**t show, but thankfully only one of the toys was ruined.

That’s a Big Lots pricetag. One time my bro and I bought 100 packs each of OS4/OS5 packs from Big Lots in NC for a nickel each. Another collector remembered buying UK Series 1 packs for 10 cents each at a Big Lots in Kentucky. Now it’s confirmed they also sold Cheap Toys for a dime each. Sludge city!

I almost flipped when I saw that price tag. Could you imagine buying cheap toys for 10 cents each today? We had no idea what we were passing up back then - if I knew, I'd have bought every last bag I could find!

But yeah, the seller turned out to be cool. I would happily buy from them again!
