So these GPK things are known as Sgorbions in Italy. A while ago I did some interview for an Italian magazine. They have started posting the contents of the issue that contains the interview before it is published. Here is the link. cicciofoca.blogspot.com/2008/02/jay-lynch-vs-puck.html I have no idea what it all means. I ran the google translation program...and it's still kind of hard to unerstand. But I like the comics these guys put out. They can draw plenty good. I don't understand any of the words, though.

I just got an advance copy of the Wacky Packages book. It comes out in May. The final thing is A very nice item indeed. So when you go to Amazon to buy it...and if you have little kids who are just starting to read, be sure to check out my book titled Otto's Orange Day. You can see it here toon-books.com Art Spiegelman and I are doing books to teach kids phonics and reading skills. But they are done in comic book form. We think it is very important that kids learn to read. Otherwise, there is no future for bubblegum cards, let alone all other forms of the printed word itself! So buy these things for your kids. It's important for the future of society. Trust me. When I'm in my 80s, I don't want my triple bypass to be preformed by a surgeon who is functionally illiterate!

That book Otto's Orange Day looks sooo cute! I just ordered one on Amazon for my boys who just turned 5 and 9. We recently started teaching our 5 yr old to read. He is picking it up so well and this will be great for him.

I just got an email from the publisher of Otto's Orange Day. The book doesn't come out until next week...But the first printing is completely sold out already. This is great news. They have started doing a second printing, though...So there won't be any problem with shortages. First printings are still available, and all bookstores after August 7th and Amazon will be stocked with the first printing on August 7th as well. The publisher's publicist sent me a list of the places I will be doing signings of the Otto book in NYC. Most notably: Friday, April 6th at Borders Books (Columbus Circle at 59th St.) Art Spiegelman and I will be doing a presentation. Art, of course, is the guy who devised Garbage Pail Kids back in the 80s...But we won't be talking about GPK this time. On Sunday, April 20th, I will be doing a standup comedy workshop for kids at the NY Comicon. This will be at 12 noon at the Kid's Stage, Main Exhibit hall , Javits Convention Center. Then from 2 to 3 pm, I will do a panel with the other authors of the first batch of Toon Books. Again...Officially this is for my kids books...Not GPK. But I think there is enough time at this event and the Borders event to allow for side discussions of the GPK stuff before and after the show part of the things occur. There are other evnts in NYC that will be reported on the blog at toon-books.com But I am pointing out the two events above to GPK buffs, on account of these are the ones where I will have the most time to get into GPK stuff on the side. The other events, so far, seem to be of shorter time durations. And the main reason for them is to publicize the kids books.

About ten years ago, when Topps wasn't doing new humor series, Tom Riccio put out a set of parody cards called Silly CDs. Me, Pound, Bunk and Strephon worked on these things for him. I just got a copy of his autobiography from Amazon. It is titled BUSTED. There is a chapter in there about Silly CDs. He mentions me and Pound...and he reprints some articles on the cards...and he mentions Topps and GPK. But chapter 19 is all about the creation of the Silly CDs series. Riccio is better known for his recent adventures with OJ Simpson and Anna Nicole Smith, though...and that is what the greater portion of the book is about. It is quite an interesting read, thogh. Especially if you know the guy. He's quite a unique character. Check out this title on Amazon!

The wacky book looks great Jay. I'm trying to find info on Wacky Pack artist. Is there a good site for this? Who else was involved with the 1985 and 1991 series I know Pound was but who else? Not sure if you were Jay?

Go to the forum at wackypackages.orgThere is a ton of info on their webpage as well. The 90s Wackys were me, Pat Piggot, Drew Friedman, Mark Newgarden, a bunch of people worked on them. I think maybe they even printed credits on the backs of some cards in that series that gives everyone's names.

I don't know if this crosses over to what you folks collect, but....
In l973, there was a magazine called Fanboy. This early magazine's title was the origin of the word "fanboy", which is now in the dictionary. Since it was I who coined the word, I have made a limited edition (only 160 copeis) signed and numbered trading card. The front of the card has my self portrait on it. The back of the card reproduces the cover of the first Fanboy magazine, and gives a short history of how the word entered the national vocabulary.
This card is of importance to comic collectors, and will probably sell out within a few days of it's official release next week. But I also am announcing it here, in case any of you are interested.
Between March 26th and April 30th, 2009, the card is available from me for $10 each plus a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The address is Jay Lynch PO Box 473 Candor, NY 13743.
After April 30th, if any cards are left, the price will go up to $15 each.
OK...so it's just one lousy card. So why should it be worth $10 you might ask. Believe me...I don't understand it either. I made these cards to test the legibility of small type. All cards are printed on an offset press, and I wanted to see how tiny I could get the type and still have it legible. I did the Fanboy card primarily to test the legibility of the small type, and it worked. Every word IS completely legible. In the world of comix collectors, though... individual copies of the old Fanboy mag from 1973 fetch high prices. And $10 a card for a limited edition of 160 on the topic of Fanboy mag isn't a bad price. So I decided to do this type testing on a card commerating the old Fanboy magazine. Then I can sell the test cards. Why not?

I will try to translate what the post says and sorry for my several mistakes that i'm sure i will make: "The third illustration that i've realised for the comic magazine PUCK is dedicated to Jay Linch, underground cartoonist operative from the '60. Jay Linch is known for the humoristic series "Nard n Pat" published from the 1968 on the pages of "Bijou", where he is been director and factotum. In the following years he has teached to the "Art Institute" of Chicago and he is been one of the creators of the garbage pail kids cards, here known as "SGORBIONS". Of this illustration, that will be published in black and white,i am creating a coloured version for the pages of this blog" That's all, if you of the forum need other translation of italian articles let me know!

I got kicked out of my house ....and I am essentially homeless right now. It's a long story...But nevertheless....
Dave Gross and I will be guests at that comic con in NYC...I think it's called The Big Apple con. And we will sit at a table and sign stuff Saturday....I think it is the 13th...or maybe the 14th of June, 2009....The con is across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden...In that big hotel that has Penn or Pennsylvania in it's name.
Sorry for the confusion on the details...But things are kind of confusing for me right now. I will be there, though.
