Pack searching is traditionally a controversial topic on UG and other collecting forums, and opens interesting dialogues about the rituals and morals that go into selecting and buying items in blind packaging, etc.
Topps gave us another product that can be searched, and I argue EASILY searched for certain sculpts, if not all. Matt noticed that Jumbo Packs can even be searched for colors!!!!!!
Is this right? Is this fair??? Why?
The very first pack I saw and picked up on Target shelves had a Adam Bomb in it, and I knew it and I handed it to IvyVan to see, it was so obvious!! I bought 10 packs, out of 36, and honestly I kept that first pack to buy ONLY because I knew a Bomby was in there. Does buying a pack that I know has an Adam Bomb in it, make me an asshole?
At what point does selecting Minikins packs cross the line into "pack searching"?
If you knew how to find a Black Minikin in a Minikin pack without opening it, would you pack search??

Also, is it ok for a young child to pack search a Minikins pack, and not an adult? I remember picking up Cheap Toy packs and fondling them to try to figure out what toy was inside (and then tossing the bags back in the box, I was turned off by how tiny and cheap and vending-like) the sculpts were. Guess, I was bad for doing that as a 12 year old?

Pack searching mini's is definitely different than searching cards in my opinion (unless you are mapping, then you're an arse). People can weigh, and grope their way to plates, and sketches, ect. With mini's you may be passing a black doug plug on your way to a fondled painted adam . It would be a whole different deal if you could slide figures to a viewable area to determine color! If you sit there and feel up every pack to find adam's and nick's i'd say it would be pack searching. It makes it tough for someone else to get said figures in a fair manner. For a little kid, i say go for it!!! (minikins packs... not cards!)

I found searched BNS3 packs at Target yesterday and many had rips at the bottom so that you could see the cards. There was evidence of minikins being searched too with creased bags.

I don't see anything wrong in feeling the minikin packs too feel a certain figure, I've stood feeling packs of Lego mini figures for nearly half hour to find a certain figure I need lol

Pack searching is wrong whether it's Minikins, Cheap Toys or trading cards.
If you need a specific figure/card for your collection trade for it. The fun of buying packs in the surprise of the contents inside.
I think that a good parent of a child caught pack searching should have a serious conversation with their child about the ethics of pack searching. It isn't any different than cheating on a test. Lousy parents allow their kids to cheat.

There was evidence of minikins being searched too with creased bags. yeah that's what i see 2 months after the release of a line of gpk's. Retail needs a facelift, perhaps the blind box approach that we see in other lines will stop pack searching once and for all. Might add to their bottom line, but it will at least make retail more effective.

Pack searching is wrong whether it's Minikins, Cheap Toys or trading cards. True, just like all crime is wrong whether it's jaywalking, murder, or burglary . Seriously though, i wouldn't buy a sketch/plate hot pack if it were a 1$ it just perpetuates the searching. I do see a difference though between the minikins and traditional card packs (not saying i'm a groper). When i say i feel its okay for little kid, i'm thinking an 8 year old who thinks buggy betty is bad-ass and wants one on their dresser, not some kid who wants to have more adams then anyone else in the yard... If you are buying jumbo packs from retail, Does it make it wrong to pick, or pass up based on who is in the window ?

We just get left over inventory from other stores that have pack searchers and yet some of the folks here still buy them all eventually. Works for me because that means we get more fresh packed new releases unlike some stores that rarely get jack squat.

i like to feel things up too.. ugh never mind lol i hate pack searchers. the other day at my local target i saw some old guy maybe 50-60 years old searching every GPK there was.. well he was searching the jumbo and regular BNS3... i just stood there watching him for at least 5-8 mins.. he saw me but he didn't care and kept going about his business. i left to do some other shopping and when i came back he was still there so i said quit loudly are you having fun. he got scared and looked around then he left with out buying anything.

Wouldn't an adult feel weird standing there in a 'childs' section of the store, molesting packs of toys, feel awkward? I'd feel like everyone would be watching a grown ass man tickling little bags of toys trying to find a specific prize inside...I get it as a child, but as an adult, maybe just grab & go? I honostly don't care either way, I just feel like, If I did it, Id feel like a giant weirdo.

Seriously, no one has yet to explain why feeling for a specific figure in a Minikin pack is morally wrong. Two people have so far said it was ok for kids to pack search, but not ok for adults. What constitutes a "kid" in this case?

....as some of you know, my 12 yr old daughter is an avid GPK collector (besides the other stuff she collects) and she comes with me to the store 9 out of 10 times, so I must ask...
Is it ok for me to take my daughter to Target, step back, let my daughter pack search, while I watch (with an evil grin on my face)?

What constitutes a "kid" in this case? A kid is a young goat. So basically it's perfectly okay for young goats to pack search minikins.

Only if you want to teach her that cheating is the only way to go though life and not to be happy with what she gets only what she can pull. So I guess your question should be to yourself.

any kind of pack searching is wrong . wether it's cards , or minikins. i shouldnt even have to explain why . when you go into a retail store and see the minikins gravity feed empty , and all the mini kins packs are resting on top of all the other boxes of packs..... you know a feelsqueezer was there. they didnt even bother to put the ones they didnt want back in the feed .......

Oh, she should go though life leaving everything up to chance? Lol Nah, life is a bitch, this world is s**t, teach your children to take the garbage around them and turn it into gold. Ok, cool responses so far everyone! I love the attention pack searching threads get!! I'll be using this technique more in the future! Btw, we don't pack search, we dont have to, because we buy every Minikin pack we come across, My daughter doesnt stand there and micromanage, she helps load the cartel in the buggies and load the truck, but I think the morality surrounding picking up a Minikins pack and feeling if there's an obvious/certain figure is a bit over-played. And it's obvious there's a double standard when kids are the ones raping the packs for certain figures/cards/rares... I wish Topps would proof the packs alittle better to prevent us from committing sin. Or maybe Targets and Walmarts can have a bin of oven mits that customers have to wear before entering the aisle to buy toys, so they can't pack search. (This post is not directed at you Casper, just speaking outloud brother!)

Lol Rus we do the same thing. Load em up. When we get home If they want to feel them and guess and see how we'll there recog skills are its fine. I teach them always go for the best in the bunch for what you want never just settle but I don't allow them to stand there and feel up every pack of cards tell them to grab random packs through out feed and go and when they get home they get the surprise an wonder with each pack they open. But then again there still happy like we were as kids when they pull duplicates of stuff they already have. More the marryer. Life is hard and can be a bitch but the longer I can keep them "innocent" and believing in things the better

And they could have put them in little cheap boxes like miniature cereal boxes with glued ends. Which would have been better on the environment and there pocket book to eliminate pack searching

I agree about putting them in the boxes. Like every blind box toy they sell in Hot Topic. You don't know what your getting and you keep buying due to that.
