I also like that card but beside the shoes the left hand is weird! It seems he has 2 pinky fingers! Yeah, Simko could benefit from working on his hair and extremities more. He's usually off, which has been the case since forever. He does a great job on the faces though. Brent, Mark and Layron are the 3 best artists Topps has for GPK right now. Joe could get better and Im just needs to go away. I love Gross but his use of color really doesn't fit in with GPK, his concepts are usually really good though. Simko is right up there with brent, mark and layron. No doubt about it. Gross's cards really look weird in this set. As i explained to ping and simko, the backgrounds on his cards need to be adjusted so the colors blend in together smoothly. Not sure how that went unnoticed... Doesn't flow with the rest of the cards in the set. And the colors are bland... He also uses very thick lines on the border of the figure which makes the figures look 2-d. Overall, i think Gross needs to check out what the other artists are doing and try to mirror their styles, cuz right now he's dropping the ball on that. He's still a great artist but he's kind of the bunk of BNS right now. i picked up an entire box today and have most of the cards now and was very impressed. I wasn't going to pick these up initially but BNS3 is a big step forward from 1 and 2. If this is any indication of things to come then the january release may be worth picking up as well.

I love the inserts this time around. Some of the Adam Bomb art is fantastic, Genghis Khan in particular. I LOVE the return of abstracts. Honestly? This is my favorite set in a long while, maybe of any of the ANS/BNS.

I like only half of the set really. I just made a complete set today with half of each of the inserts and only paid a whopping $2.50 I'm fine with that. Bring on the 2014 set already.

I was initially a bit disappointed with the set, but came around. Layron's cards are the best in terms of art. I really like Gross's work, but I agree the color doesn't match the rest of the set. The bonus cards are not the strongest, but that's ok because they are so difficult to acquire that it makes it easier to pass them up and save my money. Some of the concepts were great but the execution was lacking. I really enjoy a card much more when the names are clever and not just alliterative. "Rick in the Wall", "optiCal", "Lisa Miserables", "GardenNorm" were great.
My hopes for future sets.
-More social commentary: The Palin cards are great but five years too late. FiscalCliff is right on the money but too exclusive and not part of the regular set.
-I love the art inspired pieces and there should be at least one in every set. BNS1 had Munch's "The Scream", BNS2 had Magritte's "Son of Manny", and BNS3 has none unless you count LISA Miserables.
- more pop culture: Minecraft, Hello Kitty, Legos, Mean Gene, VoltRON. These cards always work, even the Kanye one even though I prefer pop culture film, games, and television references rather than celebrity ones. Yes, I know he is a musician.
- More abstract ideas: I should clarify as all the ideas are pretty abstract. I like the creative interpretations that go beyond showing a kid in a new costume. I really enjoyed HangmanHANK and the missing letters in the Banner.
-Multiple card or subtle interaction: Many of these cards show multiple characters interacting on one card, why not over two cards. They can make the regular cards work similar to the puzzle backs and could make the names more clever in the process (not sure about this one, the idea formed as I was typing). I was thinking along the lines of Brutal Brad-Hairy Carrie.
-I'm not feeling the one tooth addition to a lot of the cards. It works every now and then but shouldn't be a staple in the style.

Layron's cards are the best in terms of art. Which Layron cards did you like? I really like Gross's work, but I agree the color doesn't match the rest of the set. What gross card did you like? -More social commentary: The Palin cards are great but five years too late. FiscalCliff is right on the money but too exclusive and not part of the regular set. yeah wish they were part of the base as well... -I love the art inspired pieces and there should be at least one in every set. BNS1 had Munch's "The Scream", BNS2 had Magritte's "Son of Manny", and BNS3 has none unless you count LISA Miserables. one a set is ok but problem is, it breaks up the uniformity. It could work better as a bonus card or subset card. - more pop culture: Minecraft, Hello Kitty, Legos, Mean Gene, VoltRON. These cards always work, even the Kanye one even though I prefer pop culture film, games, and television references rather than celebrity ones. Yes, I know he is a musician. AGREED! BRING ON SAMUS/KID ICARUS/BOWSER/ETC (nintendo bias hehe) -I'm not feeling the one tooth addition to a lot of the cards. That one tooth thing has been going on for a very long time. It really took hold from OS9 onwards. Nothing new there... - More abstract ideas: I should clarify as all the ideas are pretty abstract. I like the creative interpretations that go beyond showing a kid in a new costume. I really enjoyed HangmanHANK and the missing letters in the Banner. Yeah liked that idea as well. Hope that stays a trend.. i have a feeling it will... -Multiple card or subtle interaction: Many of these cards show multiple characters interacting on one card, why not over two cards. They can make the regular cards work similar to the puzzle backs and could make the names more clever in the process (not sure about this one, the idea formed as I was typing). I was thinking along the lines of Brutal Brad-Hairy Carrie. or... or... they could do that concept for the puzzles and have new art displayed over 9 cards... The bonus cards are not the strongest, but that's ok because they are so difficult to acquire that it makes it easier to pass them up and save my money. Some of the concepts were great but the execution was lacking. What? ? B15-B16-B17-B18-B19 B17 B20-B21 B22-B23-B24 These are some of the best cards we've seen for a very long time. You were being sarcastic i hope...

And GPKCollector, you are right about the bonus cards. They are cool and better than a lot of base cards. I wasn't being sarcastic, its just that I am digging them less than the BNS 2 bonuses.

Those bonus cards are fantastic and are reminiscent of original series art. I can't believe there are any more Pound pieces to use but apparently there are (Sarah Pail-in). Is John Pound bound by contract to declare ALL his GPK likenesses to subsequent Topps releases or do Topps go begging at his door? Anyway, great stuff. I really like the aphrodite artwork but would've liked to see some seagulls/garbage gag in there maybe. Still it's not unlike Phony Lisa from OS2 which didn't have any of that so, great work from Ping, as ever. Simko on top form, as is Brents work and Layrons work throughout the rest of the set is always consistently good. The only weaknesses I see on a base level from BNS 1 thru to 3 are some of the concepts. Can't fault the art from the above artists at all.

These are some of the best cards we've seen for a very long time. You were being sarcastic i hope... Preach on brother. The hardest to acquire cards are the best in set. That has to be intentional. When its SO MANY DAMN CARDS. Luckily the prices on those aren't that crazy and they'll come down if you wait a bit. But yeah these cards would have been awesome in the base set and probably would have helped sales a lot. Almost noone is going to order a whole case of bonus boxes for those cards. Meh, either way, better than nothing i guess, they could have rejected the art after all. I really don't get the bonus craze. Never been into it. I usually get them last or not at all. Still missing a ton of bonus cards in my collection and just don't care. Really hard to pass these up though. It's not like the ans3 s&s set where you get them just to "complete" the collection. Luckily i don't have that bug or i'd never catch up. I agree that 18 bonus cards is a bit much. Hopefully that number comes down in future release... we can wish...

I think the bonus cards have ALWAYS out shined the base set. They know what's hot and what's not.
As far as the topic goes, I only have a hand full that I truly enjoy. This is my least favorite set at the moment. I wrote how I really felt in the "bad" thread already.

As far as the topic goes, I only have a hand full that I truly enjoy. This is my least favorite set at the moment. I wrote how I really felt in the "bad" thread already. i can't understand how you'd come to that conclusion, i'll have to read your comment in that other thread but what's not to like? You don't like the concepts? Can't possibly be the color or card stock itself, nor could it be the cpk likeness and OS1-2 simple backgrounds. Did a couple cards ruin your perception of this set? sigh... i don't blame ya, it took me a long time to appreciate ans myself, really gotta lay it all out on a table and put the good cards on one stack and the bad cards on another. Then you gotta research who did what. Would probably be a lot easier if topps added the name of the artists on the back of the card so we all knew who did what. Without baaron's site, we'd all be in the dark. What cards did you like btw?

Quoted from other thread We've all got our own taste though right? will compare the card stock more carefully with ANS3-7 and with BNS1 and 2. Ah you like the gags from ANS, yeah there's less and less of that these days. Still don't understand why gpk's are continuously being marketed towards babies and very very young children. (The minikin figures all have diapers for the most part, and the cards are wayyyyyyyy tooo politically correct) There must be something that's happened behind the scenes, perhaps a lawsuit, that was dismissed that would explain why topps is taking zero chance that something in their card set would upset someone enough that they could get sued over. It truly boggles the mind. Did you like the bonus cards at least? Those are all top notch. Artwise this is definitely the best set we've seen in a while, def better than bns1 and bns2, but apparently you're coming at your opinion from a different perspective. As a fan there was very little in bns1 that excited me, but yeah to each our own. Hopefully january's release improves on the areas that need improvement from this and previous releases. Maybe one day they can get to a happy medium that will unite all gpk lovers, new and old. I def think they need to do something more edgy. Let's get serious about that too because here's the truth 1986ish era: -Nintendo games (8 bit, no gore) -A-Team (pretend bullets hitting pretend targets) -Aliens (was scary at time though) -Rambo (never saw any blood, did you?) -Nightmare on elm street (again, no blood, just scary ideas) -Labyrinth (muppets movie) -Weird Al yankovic (prankster/spoof artist) -Ferris Buelers day off (edgy in those days) -My pet monster doll (scary monster doll, cough) Now -Walking Dead (gore, brains, etc) -left for dead video and F.E.A.R games (gore, brains, etc) -Real life Neca dolls/figures/busts/etc -Mcfarlane comic books/figures (tortured souls anyone) www.nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Talisac.jpg-Eminem - (prankster/spoof artist) -Hostel (decapitations galore) -Saw (need i say more?) -Discovery channel (you won't get this till you see the video below, lol) IN other words, if the kids of today can't handle a little blood and gore, then lol, because that wasn't even around back in 1986. Topps is doing the opposite of what's actually happened, trendwise. It probably has more to do with the age group that they have to market this product to in order to remain in the front of the store in the wizard card game section of the store. It would seem (and maybe sestren can elaborate on this, since he works at target) that each aisle in the toy section these days is setup by age group. So the card section could have been setup similarly. (taking stab in dark). Who knows, but yeah man, they gotta get more edgy cuz (besides the art), the concepts are boring me as an adult. If i was a child, i might find it funny though.... Perhaps they could come out with an adult oriented set? Will the real Garbage Pail Adults please stand up, please stand up.
