What characters will they have in the classic reprint subset since the original GPKs finished in the 80s so I can't think of any 90s specific characters

The artwork is vastly improved, due to their being all real artists now that a couple of lovebirds are out of the picture. I don’t think people should bash what looks to be a continuation of really the post-CPK look. I don’t think we are going to get a set with John Pound Cabbage Patch characters ever again. I wholeheartedly agree there have been some bad sets with sub par artwork lately .

Don’t get me wrong, I like simple gradient backgrounds on some GPK’s, but not on every card. Looking at the cards in that link, they all have a boring gradient background. They obviously rushed to get these out because they took no time to make some decent backgrounds. Whatever happened to the GPK’s designed with fun and clever backgrounds? Many of the OS designs had amazing composition and clever backgrounds. They were works of art. What are these?

It truly is astonishing how a company can completely forget how to make their own product over the course of a few decades. The original magic of Garbage Pail Kids has been gone for quite some time. These new s**t cards do not surprise me in the least.

Many of the OS designs had amazing composition and clever backgrounds. They were works of art. What are these? I think most of the characters on the first 2 pages of the ad look okay. Some of the concepts could be better though. The art on the inserts page is booty though. Also, isn't Coneheads 80's? I think the movie came out in the 90's but that was an 80's SNL skit. I agree that it'd be nice to have something other than gradient backgrounds. I mean a few of them are okay, but they all don't need to be that boring. Even OS1 has some GPK with something in the background.

I just really think die cut and the flat original banner would do wonders . I don’t think they still have to use that banner from OS 10-16. I don’t know why they don’t try and give these cards an original look. If Mark can do it, why the eff can’t Topps? Also, a combined chrome 3/4 set with 82 cards would be amazing. I don’t know why no one at Topps remembers the series 3/4 OS rack packs. Most of us started collecting in 86 anyhow! It’s the series we all want.

This is the type of banner I believe would work- it is still used occasionally, so I don’t understand why they use the 10-16os style. ibb.co/cAGRC9

Why Topps? Just, why? I was afraid they'd make a set like this. And my fears have come true.😒

Topps ought to keep it 100 and come clean in the 2nd 2019 series. It should be called "We hate GPK collectors". They could spoof random GPK collectors like Seymourbarf. Have a GPK marrying a blow up doll and call it Seymour Objectofilia.

This is supposedly the last release that Colon Walton supervised so after this set hopefully no more dumb themed sets in the future. 🙏🏼

It's a new year, and I've resolved to be a better person and say only nice things. So I am looking forward to this release, because then it will be behind us and we can hope that with a new art director, the next release will be closer to what we want - cards that actually look like Garbage Pail Kids.

And non themed sets with a little more variety in characters as themed sets limit what can be in the set for example Oh the horrorible has to be monsters, aliens etc and battle of the bands is limited to human characters as all musicians are human etc so I hope they go back to a basic set with a wide variety of characters

I really hope they have hired a true GPK fan as brand manager. The BNS was a great start, it just got derailed. Maybe if GPK were hobby only or they sold a similar set, not called GPK, for Target and younger fans .

Maybe if GPK were hobby only or they sold a similar set, not called GPK, for Target and younger fans . Apparently the previous brand manager/art director Walton *was* a fan of GPK (whatever that means). So we've seen that that isn't good enough, at least on its own. I think we need an art director (whether he's a GPK fan or not) who understands that it is good business to appeal to the original collectors. Releasing nostalgia-themed sets alone isn't good enough. The new guy needs to be more stringent in requiring that the cards look like CPKs. Most of the newer cards don't look like CPKs. For instance, they might look like a werewolf, rather than a CPK that looks like a werewolf. Or they might look like just a generic cartoon person, rather than a CPK. For me, a big part of it rides on the design of the hair. The kids must have yarn-like hair or be completely bald. You can't give a kid straight hair and expect it to be accepted as a GPK. There are other physical attributes that make a CPK a CPK, but the hair is crucial.
