Damn those top 3. So epic. Anyone have the Roy Bot final? The judge Judy one is a masterpiece compared to the other 2 "now" crap.

I don't think it's ever been publicly announced so I won't reveal that info. Let's just say the identity of the owner wouldn't come as a surprise.

It's like the difference between Michael Angelo's 'The Creation of Adam' and Mrs. Anderson's Kindergarten finger painting contest.

The bottom row cards aren't even the worst you can expect to get these days.

Modern sales keep the popularity of the Original Series going for future generations. Without new product, GPK begins to lose popularity with newer collectors, leaving it only to the ones that remember collecting GPK back in the day.

IDK why peeps hate the new stuff so much. It all looks good to me. Really the OS cards are so-so as much as any of the new cards.

Pretty sure it's sarcasm. Comparing OS to the new trash? Gotta be just a joke. Or to get people riled up. One or the other. This new junk isn't even Garbage Pail Kids. I don't know what they are, but I know what the aren't...... Garbage Pail Kids.

The more I look back, 0S 1-9 was pretty much on point. The brand did suffer with the restraints of the lawsuit. I do think that if we were still kids, this new artwork wouldn't seem as bad. But we are all fully aware that the online releases and two newest retail releases are crap. They should have stuck with the BNS line and continued it. All of these themed sets and contained art are sub par. I actually am just going back to collecting OS 1-5 stuff and maybe get into some foreign sets. Until Topps gets someone who actually knows GPK, they will be targeting the part time fans, who are too dumbed down to realize what they are buying.

Think legacy. Without the new stuff, there would be no more original stuff, except for the small niche of collectors that were kids from 1985-1988. New GPK is very important to maintaining the legacy of the brand. It reasserts the value of the Original Series, and brings new collectors to appreciate it. For that small niche of original collectors like me, OS is already perfect in it's current state and can never be replaced, but if it was repackaged and released today, kids may not feel the same way. Remember, Topps stopped reprinting Chrome because it didn't bring in the dough except from probably original collectors that saw the value in it. OS was perfect for the time period that it was released, and continues to remain timeless through the reassertion of new GPK releases. How many card sets from the past remain as popular as GPK today without any new product. For these reasons, I think the new stuff is great.

There's no debate about whether OS has crap cards or not, we're talking overall quality. OS1 - OS9 is included in that OS run so you can't exclude that. My point is comparing this new trash with a run of series that includes Jay Decay, Mad Max, Jolly Roger, etc. would be craziness, if not sarcasm.

OS art was rushed. Look at it. You can see all the little brush strokes. I much prefer the polished look of the new art and really like the digital art the best. And the online. everyday sets? Keep them coming! Topps with a moment of brilliance cashing in and the art is superb with awesome gags to match.

Remember, Topps stopped reprinting Chrome because it didn't bring in the dough except from probably original collectors that saw the value in it.. I'm pretty sure most would agree that Chrome died as a result of a poor business strategy. Vendors were blindsided at the massively large chrome 1 print run and could not make money with pulling little to nothing per case. They got burned and did not come back for chrome 2. Topps saw this and said there's no demand. Chrome is still widely popular on the Facebook boards and maybe a chrome 3 release would do well? Doesn't sound like we will ever find out. And if by bringing in new collectors, you are talking about the 2yr olds who post on the GPK Facebook page every time a new political release comes out, talking about triggered this and snowflake that, I would rather not have them in our beloved hobby.

I think it is a combination of sorry concepts combined with in general low quality artwork. Good concepts with so so art would still be engaging. My question is why are the gags so bad?

I just think it's a different generation of people in control. I also believe they don't have good judgment, taste or any clue what the brand is about . For the first time ever, in 32 years, I only purchased a few packs of the new release and still felt regret . Chrome 3 would be the only redemption, as that's when most OS collectors really started. Topps doesn't care anymore obviously and people keep buying the online trash and themed releases . I keep hoping they will bounce back, but change is hard for some people.

And they're blogging about them on Facebook too? They're buying $100 political cards? Serious? Did you get burned trying to collect the new stuff? I got the whole 180 card set for $20 and I'm blogging about it on GPK86-87.blogspot.com

Think back to the age you were when you first started collecting GPK 30-32 years ago between 1985-1987. Back then, looking back 30-32 years was like looking back to sometime between 1953-1957. What non-sports card sets from that era (1950's) still held the popularity that GPK sets still hold today? Probably none I bet. There were definitely plenty of non-sports card sets produced in the 1950's (look at the Tradingcard Database website). But what happened to them? I'm sure people eventually forgot about them without any new reminders. I'm sure they're not continuing to climb in value. Their small niche of collectors are probably looking to sell them now at their advanced age without anyone who appreciates them enough to pay anything worthwhile (sportscards don't have that problem).
8-10 year old kids today aren't the ones buying those fancy online cards for $50-$100, which isn't the only new product available. No, these kids are in the Dollar Stores looking at all the different boxes of cards, and trying to decide what kind of new packs to buy. It'll influence what they look back on with sentimental value in the future, and will determine whether they want to buy our GPK sets from us later on or not. Would you tell these kids to buy a pack of something else because GPK now sucks? Wouldn't you rather they chose GPK, instead of Pokeman, or whatever other new fad there is out there? Is your finger so far up your nose that you don't even care if the GPK legacy lives on past the 1980's?
Maybe you just want to quote a single sentence out of this long paragraph and take it out of context like the last guy who said I was talking about 2-YEAR OLDS BUYING $100 POLITICAL CARDS ONLINE AND BLOGGING ABOUT THEM ON FACEBOOK LIKE SOME SNOWFLAKES. Are you kidding me? Those must be some smart kids.
I support OS1, OS2, and Adam-Geddon, etc. Have you seen Outerspace Chase, Squoze Rose, Beth Death, Dry Guy, Mad Mike, Virus Iris, Cracked Jack, Charred Chad, Graffiti Petey, Rob Slob, Alice Island, and Adam Bomb lately? They're all in the latest GPK set, with many more character updates from the original cast. This is only going to bring kids back to the Original Series eventually, and give us all someone to sell are cards to in the future.

This is only going to bring kids back to the Original Series eventually, and give us all someone to sell are cards to in the future. Most popular 50's Non-Sports sets based of the PSA set registry: 1959 Fleer Three Stooges has 92 sets registered. 1956 Topps US presidents has 53 sets. 1952 Topps Look N See has 52 sets. 1951 Bowman Red Menace has 43 sets. 1956 Topps Elvis Presley has 40 sets. 30yrs ago I didn't even know those sets existed but somehow today, at least in the case of the Stooges, they are still popular. I know the 50's had some killer baseball sets but non-sport was much stronger in the 60's and i'm sure at least few of those are still kicking without having or needing to have current cards on the shelves. I can think of a couple :-) I'm not sure where you are getting that the dollar store is where kids buy cards? I would think Target is probably the main place they are at least exposed to what's out there. Let's face it eitherway, trading cards have a very difficult future in this digital age. Kids don't really collect cards much at all. Remember, Topps stopped reprinting Chrome because it didn't bring in the dough except from probably original collectors that saw the value in it.. I'm pretty sure most would agree that Chrome died as a result of a poor business strategy. How did I take your quote out of context? I only cut out the part regarding chrome because I was responding to that part of the message. It's redundant and difficult for everyone else to follow what someone is responding to if one just requotes an entire post. Commonly done on forums. Looking back though, I should have requoted your comment that old GPK needs this new GPK to survive. It doesn't.
