He's quitting the UG too. BNS2 is to blame. Nobody is quitting UG. BNS2 was partially to blame though. What a joke, one joke too many. I'm done. If I buy more packs its because I want to-as a fan and not a 'collector' and NEVER a supporter. G%#£%*+ loser Topps. Jimbo and TCT sets are where it's at! Thx for your support V -TCT

Collectors should really focus one one or two things and not spread themselves too thin, there's so much cool things in this hobby to collect but it's need to be in proportion to ones income and lifestyle, and not treat every item like it is their last like I did. I screwed up, sorry UG! Please help future young collectors understand this, before they go too far and get sick.

Thx for your support V -TCT I'm not 'supporting' GPK fan releases Tct(and Jimbo), I simply love them because they are quality, visual, funny, smart, and cool, and are made by my friends in a place I love inspired by a sticker line I adored as a child. If that is called support then I'm supporting you, but to me we are talking about two different things. I WAS supporting Topps and Post-OS Garbage Pail Kids and BNS(lol), but I never supported and never will support GPK fan sets, because that is redundant if I truly love something. I never had to support OS GPKs, never did, it was never in my mind set.

Bro, I'm broke in 1 so no worries. But I am going to love wallpapering my room with all the pretty stickers while I try to release myself from the buckled jacket.... This is how I started focusing only on collecting and making ANS sets. I quickly learned about different box prints (bottom box code numbers) and eventually went to collecting factory sealed ANS boxes back 5 years ago. I stayed away from OS and Cheap Toys. I knew there was no way I would be able to spread myself thin. Then... I stopped 2 years in. Went on to collecting all the rare US Sega Saturn games, which I did and got back to gaming. Eventually the announcement of BNS 1 last year sparked my interest and before BNS 1 came out I started again with ANS box collecting. Then BNS 1 came and ordered a case for the first time ever. Very excited busting it all open. Yet I still bought ANS boxes in between the release and BNS 2. And then trying to complete my BNS 1 black parallel set before BNS 2 release was draining. Completed it after a couple days I saw them BNS 2 bonus boxes at retail. Very stressing. I felt and still feel like am spreading myself thin. And my funds are rather limited as of now. Which is why am not even going near that silver set. Am just gonna make a base set with chase cards and blacks later down the road. And of course the factory sealed box run of it which is my priority before dipping in the set. No case this time. Once BNS 3 comes am just gonna make a base and chase set with the factory sealed box run. I think this will help me in the long run from burning out. The good thing is that I have most of the ANS line box print run and the ones I need are the rare ones which hardly ever pop up so that helps my funds grow in between when they do show up. This my plan and I feel less stressed and actually having fun collecting as of a couple weeks ago.

You are still spending yourself thin, you said it yourself. Ask yourself why you are buying so many BNS packs and weigh the consequences of bringing stress and fear and doubt into your everyday life. What is GPK giving you that you are in need? Excitement, material wealth, gambling, entertainment, etc? What are other ways of satisfying these needs without overspending money and time and focus on collecting stickers?
You seem like an intelligent collector, hope you can find your pace, balance, and presence, and maybe the GPK hobby is a positive, fruitful, self-regulating fit for you. The key is to always question and trouble it, before it becomes bigger than your Self.
Be aware that you are participating and 'supporting' a very dangerous and oppressive structure in the GPK brand, Topps, and forum life, and these structures construct the average man into power-hungry, greedy, desiring beings over night if we are not careful and alert.

Yes, I started slowly and grew my self too thin. I realized this near BNS 2 release, so that is why am cutting back. Only reason I continue is because I find the joy of collecting. I have barely any interest in other things. GPK is my only hobby. I just need to slow down from now before I burn myself. I want to at least have something to look forward too that will make me happy in my times when life feels boring.

Well then someone here go get a Job there and make some changes.
I know , shut up MIKE.
I just limit my goals but I sure can understand those who like to have every card made to date, with these sets that is crazy. I wish it was just 1 nice base set with sketches & plates.( instead of a rainbow of borders, bonus & "c" & glowing cards, folding cards, mix n match bahh, thats all for kids) Maybe the 3D & Loco things as they go well with their original cards. BNS , they spent too much time & energy on the bull$h!t. I can see some effort in BNS2 but still to much kiddo crap.
My $.02

Well said on everything so far Rus. Hobbies have a way of making a pauper out of you for sure. I'm an avid Nintendo fanboy, and fellow collectors try to tell me that hobby will bankrupt you. Seriously? I've spent less in five years on Nintendo e-shop, 3DS and Wii games than I have in one year of BNS GPK's. Movies and Video gaming is quite cheap if you budget correctly that is, than card collecting. I still buy alot of the newest Magic: the gathering too. Again, being frugal, you can make it work. I try to collect alot of marvel and D.C comics stuff as well. I still spend less in a year combined on the rest of those hobbies, than I have so far with BNS GPK.

Seriously Russvan i understand your points, but i think you just need a little time out.. You are thinking about it way to much(Like some other collectors posting on this topic) just enjoy life and collecting ,if you feel like your collection is taking over; just have a break, pick it up when you feel balanced. We have an old dutch saying
Bedenk niet wat je wilt hebben, maar geniet van wat je hebt
Dont think about what you want next, enjoy what you have now.( or have accomplished)

We have an old dutch saying Bedenk niet wat je wilt hebben, maar geniet van wat je hebt Dont think about what you want next, enjoy what you have now.( or have accomplished) Actually he has a point. Many of the people on this forum are dealers and sellers. Their posts can at times be misleading to the average gpk collector (not by intent necessarily). The average fan isn't buying cases upon cases of these things and they're getting a really jaded view of the hobby, a view that topps is leaching on as is apparent with every new series that comes out. The true fans of the brand are getting forced out and replaced by this new thinking. We gotta stop the insanity. The c cards should have opened a lot of peoples eyes with where this hobby is going (actually the exclusive hobby black border parallel set from bns1). It's only going to get worse from here unless we support the right people and do away with this mindless thinking, that spending 10's of 1000's of dollars a year on c cards, plates, sketches and gold bordered cards will save this hobby. It won't, it will just speed up the inevitable. (i saw it happen with sports cards, gpks are not immune). If none of you have ever thought about buying final art, now is the time to rethink things. I will bet anyone that a piece of final art from one of the current or past gpk artists will be worth more in 20 years than a gold parallel set. If not, then it just proves how dumb people are with their wallets when you consider that final art is 1 of 1, You can only say that for a very few other gpk items. Even plates aren't 1 of 1 if i'm not mistaking. It's just sad to see so many people spending so much money on something they ultimate can't even enjoy (hidden away in a closet or folder when a piece of artwork hangs on the wall to be viewed on a daily basis. GPK's should be enjoyed, not exploited for this ridiculous notion that they'll be worth thousands in the future. Get real people. It's getting to the point that mint adam bombs are selling close to michael jordan rookie card prices. It's unrealistic and foolish. We gotta get a grip on reality soon or it will spiral out of control. I can only hope that the person buying the 140c card for 750$ is not an ug member. Support the artists ~ my 2 cents. p.s: don't get me wrong, i love the die hards on this forum, they give a lot of life to this place, but i see way too many people trying to do the same, when it's financial suicide. I mean has anyone done the math on what it would cost to get a complete master set of everything (except every plate). It has to be close to 20,000$. We are in gpk hysteria (the peak of the hobby), this is not going to last and the prices are not going to skyrocket past where we are now. One day many of you will look back and gasp at the insane prices paid during this period of gpk.

GPK collector: a full true Master set for BNS 2 will cost 6-10k depending on how quickly you make the set. That includes a final art.

Someone told me once that there is a fine line between a Hobby & a Obsession. Which one are you? I would not even be here if my daughter didnt buy a pack & show me, it rekindled a childhood feeling for me when I used to collect in the 80s and its still going for now. Again I dont have to have it all, just be a part of the club & have fun. There are some really great people here & you know who you are.
Control your GPKs, dont let them control you!

It's all good, I'm just sercond guessing gpk's collecting, that's all. It's a scary place to be in once you're this deep. It's something that needs to be contended with if it starts effecting people around you. I'm just going to put it on hold until I figure out, excuse the pun, my next move, if any. I'm happy with what I got collecting, just am not happy with things in other parts of my life. I'll be around! Peace

I am new here, and I created an account specifically to respond to this thread.
I used to collect these things feverishly when I was 12-13. I got in right around OS 2 and stopped by OS 9. I was never all that serious about investment value; I simply enjoyed the cards.
I bought them with money I made from mowing lawns and even at 25 cents a waxpack, I was always broke. For me the hunt was about finding the cards 'I LIKED', the ones with the coolest art, or the name that matched my own (or a friends). Completing sets was never really all that big of a concern for me when I was 12. I unloaded all I had at a card shop for $20 bucks when I was 15 (under duress - parents made me get rid of them).
I ignored OS 8-15 for the most part. In 2000 I made a few cheap OS 1-3 variation set purchases, also scored a full OS 1 UK set on ebay, then forgot about everything in packing box when I moved.
Now I'm married with kids, and about 2 years ago I saw the FB packs at Target. I bought a few packs annoyed at the cost and annoyed at the tackiness of the Flashback banner logo. Was further annoyed by all the different parallels. One or 2 rarer parallel sets would have been enough! I didn't think much about the cards again.
Fast forward to now and suddenly I am seeing BNS2 at Target. I did not even know about BNS1 let alone ANS. I wish I would have paid closer attention last year. Still annoyed with the cost, I was intrigued enough to by a base set off ebay. I'm looking for some cheap BNS1 hobby packs now , just to see if I pull anything nice, and then 1 to save unopened. Then I'm done with BNS1.
BNS2 got the better of me and not only did I buy a base set off ebay, I also dropped $120 at the Topps store (arrives tomorrow and I'm drooling). I likely wont spend anymore than that on BNS2. Hopefully I'll pull something nice. I may sell a few things depending on if I like any of my pulls.
OS1 Chrome has me all sorts of excited but I am upset at the announced cost. I won't go for the gold, but I would like to build one of the parallel sets. I may have to buy my set off ebay tho cause I don't intend to spend more than $200 on OS1 Chrome. Then BNS3 will be mercilessly raping my wallet come Winter.
I like collecting these retarded little stickers. Not being able to have a full master set for less than a small fortune means I have to settle for what IS obtainable - I'm ok with that.
Remember, the gold and other parallels and such are there for the investment collectors with disposable income (or certifiable addictions). For the average semi serious hobbiest [(me)], a few hundred for a base set and parallel set with some nice chase cards is more realistic even though I still think its too much.
TL;DR
Average Moe's like me won't likely spend more than a few hundred but will still enjoy ourselves immensely because we collect these stupid little stickers because we like to, not because we feel compelled to acquire every unobtainable set or chase card.
Spending thousands is beyond my level of dedication to this hobby. I would feel horrible spending that much when I have other real world expenses. At the end of the day your hobby should not make you feel horrible.

Well said Stizzco, well said. Your hobby should bring you more joy than it should grief. I've actually spent less than $700 combined for BNS1 and BNS2 thanks to a combination of friends on the inside at the retail level and e-bay wheeling and dealing. Point being, you don't have to spend alot to still collect on your favorite hobbies.
Would'nt hurt to do so if you can/could afford to do so. More power to those guys for real. Topps is at least seeing GPK's a hot commodity worthy of the all-star treatment.

Welcome to the board Stizzco. Thanks for the post.
My original point about second guessing was about the product quality more than the price. I understand price is a major factor to a lot of us though and it could drive people away just as easy. It seems we are split 50/50 of people sick of spending lots of money and people wanting a better product for their money.
How many people on here are still actually looking through the terrible BNS2 art and concepts regularly? How many people have just filed it away never to be seen again? I'm guessing there are some severely neglected and sad base sets sitting in top loaders/binders.
It's been a few weeks since I quit the BNS and it feels good. I sold most of my BNS1 inserts and chucked the base set in the trash. The chrome set just validated my decision to quit even more. I honestly don't miss it. The only thing that sucks is seeing the new GPK images on the board but I can live with that. ;D

At the end of the day your hobby should not make you feel horrible. This. I like opening packs and hoping for that rare but really at the end of the day I am happy with a base set just to see all the cards and open up a few packs. I set a limit on myself and have fun. Its no different then when I go to a casino with my friends or whatever. If I dont get anything good I do not get bent out of shape because i will not spend enough to even notice a dent in my bank account. BTW, welcome to the board. I was about 5 years younger than you but started and stopped at the same time. Also never collected sets just my fav cards. I think I was too young to even realize there were really sets lol.
